The party heads into the tomb, which leads east from the ladder. There's a great deal of dust, and the rough hewn stone looks as if it might have been shaped by tireless, if unskilled, hands. There are several spots that look like dried goo around the entryway, along the floor, walls, and pillars.

As the party moves along, Steppyn steps on a trigger panel in the floor, which opens a door on the south wall, revealing a contraption that seems to resemble nothing more than a mass of swinging and writhing swords on wheels. At that same instant, the source of the dried goo reveals itself as an orange blob emerges from behind a pillar.

Note: The orange square represents bright light, in which all characters can see normally. Beyond the yellow square is darkness, where only darkvision functions. The light source is centered on Vlastos.

ooc=How big are the wheels on the trap, are they accessible, is there any rubble in the room nearby where Steppyn's standing?
 

OOC: The four wheels look to be about six inches diameter each, and the top half of the wheels are covered by the metal plates that make up the central core of the sword machine.

There is no rubble on the floor in this room. The gray circles are pillars, however, if you're looking for terrain to try to use to your advantage. The pillars count as an obstacle (PHB, p283). The pillars, you note now, seem to have some chips and dings on their lower halves that likely came from this machine.

OOC: It'd be a tricky shot, and it wouldn't damage the core of the machine, but if you did hit, it'd hinder the machine some.

In the spirit of "Say Yes!" here's what I'll allow: One shot at attacking the machine with a -2 penalty. No damage on a hit, but the machine would immobilized (save ends), then slowed (save ends) as it grinds its wheels against the stuck dagger.

Steppyn moves directly towards the construct with a look of undisguised mischief alight on his face as he bends low and attempts to ram his dagger through the spokes of its right front wheel, then retreats.

Move to N10, attack, move to P9.

Attack the wheel of the construct in an attempt to jam it in place.

Sly-flourish at will attack with dagger, + 1 for timely posting - 2 for DM designated attack penalty, aiming to immobilize the sword trap. (1d20+9+1-2=17)

Steppyn's clever thinking and swift knifework jams the machine's wheels, leaving the trap stuck in its recess as the drow darts back behind a pillar.
