The new and improved assassin

Regarding Evasion:

Not all assassins have evasion before entering the class. The class is perfectly set up for a Ranger to join. I've got a Ranger / Assassin myself.

A different style on Death Attack would be to allow the SA damage to multiply on the attack. That would be pretty nasty, but no worse than Harm.

Or count it as a Coup de Grace attack.

Isn't there a feat that allows the assassin to do a paralyzing-type attack with a death attack? I thought I saw it somewhere - maybe in S&S...

That's a normal feature of the Assassin class. I don't remember how long the paralyzation lasts, though.

A good point. And so, to appease both sides, I added another line to the evasion ability. If you already have evasion, you get improved evasion instead.

You're right - I had my abilities and feats mixed up. It lasts 1d6+1 rounds, BTW. I think the feat enabled you to do 1 point of (physical) ability damage with a strike. IIRC, it was from S&S.

The document has been added, but since I don't have Word on this puter, it's in rtf format.

I've considered replacing the Death Attack with one that is an automatic critical dealing maximum damage, requiring a Death vs Massive Damage check if the damage sustained is great enough to require such. The damage recieved could be normal or non-leathal, potential knocking the foe unconscious.

I tend to view DvMD as more of a system shock type thing, while Death Attack just seems a bit odd to me, although I suppose it is meant to replace called shots to the eyes, throat, heart, etc.

I've never actually made this change, however, as I was uncertain as to how it would affect play, and as I don't allow evil PCs this would only come up for NPCs anyway (who would typically only use it to paralyze, as I tend to use Asn NPCs as bounty hunters).

[Edit]
Hmm, I hadn't realized how old this thread was. I just followed a link from another Asn thread to this one. I wonder if the spell "Animate Dead Thread" would have the Evil subtype? :heh:
