I turned 38 in November. I've felt 68 since I was 35.
My personal crackpot theory is that the body is rigged for neolithic timekeeping, and takes a little while to realize its not actually dying of old age around then and reset. I base this in part on my 50 and 70-something parents and grandparents, who seem to have all the energy in the world again. And I remember my parents being as tired as I am about the same age.
I've also played D&D since close to day 1 of the original release through a freak of circumstance, but I was eight years old when I started. No Wargame Basis for me.
