The New Iconics

So are the D&D XP play test characters the new iconics?

CORRIN REEDSON, Halfling Paladin
ERAIS THE SUNLORD, Human Cleric
KATHRA IRONFORGE, Dwarf Fighter
RIARDON BRIGHTVALE, Eladrin Ranger
SKAMOS REDMOON, Tiefling Wizard
TIRA DUSKMEADOW, Half-Elf Warlock

For anyone who went to the D&D preview for 3E in 2000 ... did they use Mialee, Lidda et aal then?

If they are, it seems strange that many are played against type. I'd expect the iconic wizard to be an eladrin, iconic ranger to be an elf, etc.

I think the reason they went against type is to show how diverse you can be with the game. Part of the fun with making a character is trying to figure out how to use race abilities to work beyond what they were made for. I almost never play a preferred class for a given race as it seems so every day if I do.

I doubt it, since they are Forgotten Realms characters, and were used for both the delves and the Living Forgotten Realms games.

I don't think that the pregens are the new iconics. Rather, I guess that the characters in the "[Race] Adventurers" section of the race description are the new iconics. So, for tieflings, we have Akmenos the warlock, Kallista the warlord, and Random the rogue (XP photos). For elves, we have Varis the ranger, Lia the rogue, and Heian the cleric of Sehanine (& article).
