General Disclaimer: We don't have the books yet, I am not precognitive, the game is still in development, etc. That said:

I have pinned down a name for the 4e style. Think about this:

Roles are clearly defined. Characters are clearly heroic from the get-go and able to do dashing, daring things. Combat is mobile. Fighters and wizards are defined by using a few favored tools (weapon styles, and orb/wand/rubber ducky/whatever, respectively). Class abilities are flashy. No one spends a lot of time simply healing or aiding other party members. Points of light in a world of darkness.

In other words:
Excellent. Let's break this down and see what it means for the game:

-Weapons list has been simplified to Club, Quarterstaff and Bow
-Resource tracking is gone - bow fires magic energy arrows
-Cavaliers will have no offensive abilities
-Barbarians will get animal companions

-Barbarians get 'magical' animal companions but they are young and not very useful more like a
3E familiar.
-Magic Items will need to be recharged
-Magicians have no control over Magic random effects-all the time

So, if 4E is like the D&D Cartoon, does this mean EVERY adventure will end in disappointment for the PCs? They'll always come a hair's breadth from reaching their goal, but with be thwarted by the villain or have to make some moral choice...because if the characters actually attain their goal, the campaign series is over... ;)

Addendum - Magic Items will need to be recharged, but ONLY when the DM wants to yank the players around for an adventure. Otherwise, charges are infinite.

- Additionally, all adventures will end with the players learning a VERY IMPORTANT LESSON (tm). Probably about the value of sharing, or of not judging people by their appearances, or of not being a whiny jerk when you're the Cavalier.
