The number of Demon Lords and Gods

I have an idea (maybe for a story) what if all the demon lord, yuguloth lords and archdevil become powerful deities (In a greater deity status because the lower divine rank is kind of boring) and take over the upper plane?

Hellbound suggests that, in fact, the number of tanar'ri is finite. It argues that if there were infinite tanar'ri, the Blood War would be unwinnable, and the baatezu are not so stupid as to fight an unwinnable war. While I'm not certain that this is a valid argument, I agree that there's no reason to automatically assume there are infinite tanar'ri.

an infinite plane or planar layer is one thing ("it kind of goes on forever..."), but i have a hard time fathoming an infinite number of creatures.

actually, that brief comment just upped my faith in the book's quality. :) and should, hopefully, help people on both "sides" cope with the changes that have happened since 3E began. ;)

IMC: There are six gods.
IMC: The number of demon lords is uncountable. :]

Six things are said about demons:
three ways in which they are like the ministering angels
and three ways they are like mortals.
Like the ministering angels:
They have wings;
they fly from one end of the world to the other;
and they know how the world will end.
Like human beings:
They eat and drink;
they reproduce;
and, most importantly, they die.

As long as Orcus gets as much print as Demogorgon and Graz'zt, I'll be happy. And I want at least 10 pages! :p :)

we shall see! it is likely enough that those three should be detailed more than the others. Erik has already asked for specific information on each of their realms, so it seems likely enough that we will get some true detail on their home bases for one thing. :)
