Trailer The Odyssey | Official Trailer

It always tickled me that the show began with Ulysses having negotiated a trade treaty with King Priam of Troy.

“Great talk, your Majesty, so glad we didn’t have to raze your city to the ground like in the original story.”
The Troy movie did toy with the idea that the Greeks are the bad guys, actually.

Geez, this looks washed out and drab.

I'll watch it, 'cause I'm a sucker for these tales, but what I wouldn't give for someone with a more colorful and ... well, gay, sensibility to have made this film.
Yeah, I gotta admit the trailer itself does nothing for me. I like Nolan’s movies generally so the actual film will be up my alley but the palette of this doesn’t make me sit up and take notice.

If you want supernatural elements, that BBC miniseries Troy: Fall of a City had them in spades. Too bad it was so awful in every other respect ...

Yes, and it’s common in most film versions of the Iliad because, after all, the Greeks are invading and Hector is heroic. In the Wolfgang Petersen version, Agamemnon is very clear there to conquer and add to his power; Priam is a much nobler (if less effectual) ruler, as Achilles notes.

Eric Bana plays Hector as the only sane man around, it’s very hard not to feel sorry for him.

“You did what, Paris? WTF?”

“Great, now I have to kill this guy because you can’t fight your way out of a paper bag, don’t think I’ve forgotten that this entire war is your damn fault.”

“Oh, the Gods are going to save Troy, are they, dad? I’ll just take the year off then, shall I?”

“Is there any way we could talk about this, Achilles? No? Never mind, I’m clearly f*cked and it’s Paris’ fault, as usual.”
