The Ogre Killed the Dwarf in 3 Rounds

This is how it went in our last session, the ogre charged in right after three of the goblins that bribed him, the three goblins charged the thief and the wizard while the two clerics and the fighter were busy holding off the goblin patrol plus another three goblins on the other side of the junction.

The thief climbed op the wall and launched him self at the ogre landing on the ogre back a few seconds after the fighter charged the ogre and got a tree trunk to the head for his troubles, next the wizard wanted to use ray of frost on the club so that the ogre will drop it, he rolled 1, usually when some one roll a 1 I tell them to roll 1d6 to see what happen, depending on the situation I usually give a 33% chance that it would be a regular miss and the rest is dependant on the scene, this time I told the wizard to roll 1d8 and that on a 1 he hit the halfing thief instead... He rolled a 1 :erm:

The cleric of Pelor tried to use searing light and missed, but the thief (after thawing) back stabbed the ogre and continued to borrow his dagger in the wound the next round.

All in all the ogre only attacked twice before the party fled ( with 6 goblins dead out of 12) mainly because the ogre spent some time trying to get the thief off (Dex contest) and the fact that after three rounds the party decided to run for it.

We fought the Ogre on its own. It got one attack that was defendered & missed & the rest of the time it was ray of frosted & shot/spring attacked up. Not really exciting but funny one time.

Yeah, if you manage to attack it alone than its not that big deal, reward scouting and forward planing though.

The ogre in our playtest floored the rogue, who was then healed by the dwarven cleric. While the rogue faked being dead the ogre dropped the dwarf and then the rogue again when she tried to get a sneak attack. The ogre then chased the wizard and the human cleric out of the cave. The wizard thought he was smart and did the ray of frost thing while planning on having a pew pew fest to finish the ogre off. The ogre then proceeded to toss one his three spears, which almost dropped the wizard. The human cleric rushed in and healed the rogue (who was closer to the entrance), which allowed her to finish the thing off with a critical sneak attack.

Our group really enjoyed that fight :D

So the Ogre with a greatclub doing 2d4+6 damage got angry at the dwarf in the party and only focused on attacking him. With only 20 hit points, the Ogre was able to beat him literally into the ground dead in 3 rounds.

The Ogre also killed the Wizard Elf in 2 rounds after dispatching the Dwarf.

This sounds about perfect to me. The Dwarf had two rounds to figure something else out or for his party to help him out of his predicament. And what was the wizard still doing around for two rounds after watching the dwarf get pummeled? Sometimes it is best to run.

Really though, this seems right about where I would want my power band.

The Ogre we faced on Saturday just died horribly. The fighter had died and chosen to come back as a Cleric of Moradin, so our battle line was two clerics. The Ogre couldn't hit either of them as he was suffering disadvantage against both.
