The Old Fogy Story!!! Story Time

Juxtaposition as the central setting would be preferable to all, methinks. Generally speaking, I think the 'Roads has a great deal of fond memories and almost preference among a lot of players, but with the current fads and trends in characters, their explainability in - and knowlodge of - Oerth would limit the ability to expand into the setting.

And... yeah. Work and whatnot has me pressed for time, but I'm willing to help out and participate.

I know a lot about Oerth...

[edit] Yah, so to answer Donny's questions:

CRT or Emp... either. Both. I suspect the story will spill in any case, no point trying to prevent that. Mainly based on one, though, and talked about on the other. I would suggest evil people doing stuff on Oerth, as it's just more plausible than on Juxta. It's too difficult, I think, to just bring an army to Juxta, being a demiplane and so on... Oerth makes more sense. Though, obviously, the same characters in one room will talk about it in the other... so 'tis to some extent a nix question.

Open to all; run by us. Simply because if it's not open to all, it would be unfair and rather limited in scope, and we'd be missing the opportunity to help some newer people get into the swing of things... new characters could make an impression and become known... this is a very good thing. Helps with some of the cliquiness.

And lastly, I'd love to introduce a new group of villains. Have people playing as part of my evil group. But... I think I'd in truth prefer to have Jea's guild get off the ground properly... anyway. That's a shamless plug... moving back to aims - if we could get the viles, the grinning skull people, or some other group in to play, it would be great. Otherwise, maybe just a band of individuals? Dunno, just thoughts. [/edit]

the only evil groups even semi active that I can think of are the Drow and the Blackguards of Bane. Being a member of both, this player would like to see them involved in something other than sitting around and drinking tea and wine and ale, but thats just personal and the like.

Since you're talking about opening it to everyone then as still somewhat of a newbie (one full year now! ), may I weigh in on one aspect?

If you revive one of the older groups such as Viles or Grinning Skull or whatever, expect the newer players to stare blankly at you unless you also lay some groundwork. In fact, for most of your screennames expect the newer players to stare blankly at you.

If you want it to be a well-thought-of everyone-has-fun everyone-can-play game then what you need is, well, *winces as she realizes this is actually the right term*... publicity. You need people sitting around in the tavern making angry noises about what's going on, confronting the characters, explaining past histories, asking total strangers if they've seen so-and-so or know about this-and-that, etc. You need to make sure as many players as possible know who and what is involved.

Or not, of course, if you want a smaller, quieter game.

And this isn't a shameless plug. Bets that this doesn't get started before Kat goes out on maternity leave. :bored:

*votes Kat an honorary old fogie*

Much as I loved the better-played viles, I now admit that they are past their time. The breakdown of leadership, teamwork/communication and continuity I believe were the main culprits, if you forgive the players that purely had no clue and just caused crap.

I'd love to have a good story to play although I don't think "Chit'ara" would be the best character for me to use. (She's missing, anyway.) However if anyone wants a victim played in the graveyard hours or may have a new evil group starting, look me up. ;)

Jae> Sweeping statement. In general, I see at least five times more FR characters than Greyhawkers. *Shrug*

/agree with the open to all, though.

As far as the Good Guys vs. Bad Guys thing.. lemmie toss out a couple suggestions. Feel free to ignore me. ;)

- Creating a totally new 'group' mworks, but if that proves to be too difficult, there's no shame or harm in using existing characters. If there's one thing that's always intrigued me, it's that not many of the larger storylines directly involve established characters on Both sides. Our resident villains seem to get shut out whenever a new group or evil appears.. it limits their ability to get in on the action.

- Why not a new group of 'Goodies'? Granted, there's a larger mass of 'Good' than 'Evil' characters, but with the proper mind-games and whatnot, you can be playing against both teams to a point. Ex. One of the most ingenious ideas I remember was a group of zealous, planewalking Tormites a few years back. The perception of their Good nature was underminded by their intolerance of all things even vaguely non-good (particularly undead, as I recall, which doesnt' fare well in the vampire-huggishness that goes on. ;) ), giving them a clash from both sides of the coin.

I would personally prefer Oerth. Why? *shrugs* That's just where Krystal haunts, really. She drops by from time to time, to see who is still around, who isn't, and who has changed severely. She very rarely has reason to travel to Juxta... mostly because there's nothing there for her and travelling by portals there always seems to make her very sick.

I could pull in her brother, if you want someone bent on causing mischief. His main gripe is with his sister, but I think given his state of mind (and recent imprisonment) he'd be willing to go at anyone who even talked civilly to Krys. But last I recall, he was sent away and dealt with by Neo... (Hehe, but anything is possible I suppose).

Am I willing to kill Krystal? Oi, part of me says yes. Part of me says no. I guess the biggest thing is that these days, getting a character started on the site is so hard. Krys has a history and such that would be a pain to restart. Though I have to admit, it would be interesting to see how it affects various players.

Besides, we can always pull the Asnod and bring her back. *smirks* Of course, if *THAT* was done, she'd, well... she'd be quite peeved.

Eh, storyline ideas, hmm?

What if one of the oldies, someone good or neutral, for one reason or another changed to where they tried to restart something that happened before?

EX: (this doesn't have to be it).

Let's say Krystal tinkers with a few spells that she shouldn't, or for some reason, her goddess abandons her since she is so often so far away, and another god/goddess/spirit/etc decides to persuade her. She is prone to fits of madness, after all.

And let's say that in her madness, she decides to reincarnate the Redeemers. ( I would find this ironic, in an odd sort of way). They act much like the old ones... and yet, they're not. They terrorize those who remember them, and thought they were gone and done away with. Could stir up old memories real well. Get people's emotions going... and emotional reactions are often the best to rp.

Of course this is just an example, but I think (hope) you see my meaning. Someone slips just the other side of neutral and starts to reincarnate that which the group fears... people start to get bothered, and worse of all... they can't figure out why she's/he's doing it.. (this would be so much better if she/he just sort of slipped into a depression/etc, because then it couldn't be fixed with a banishment/spell/etc).

I think whoever falls, it should be someone where people wouldn't know what to do. Someone close to many, or well-known, where the gut reaction would be to kill or silence, and yet because of how they are known, people would struggle with that concept.

I dunno, I suppose it's still clicheish... but it's all I got.

Willing to play bad, willing to play good, possibly willing to kick it for a while....

Lovely ideas all around..

As I said.. I'll give a week before thinking up even more questions that I think we should answer.. so that means Tuesday.. hehe

For my part I think the following, but as I said, we should go with what the masses think.. :

1. Specific Setting, Preferrred, Juxta.

2. Open to All, with Organization and Co-ordinator Peoples..

3. I'd rather see a few new ideas.. instead of trying to revive that which has come before..

I'm just on for the ride...My head hurts anyway.

Good health, and good luck. Tell me how I can help.
