3, 7, 9. They all look good and seem to be quite popular. So instaed of further voting it down to one why not combine...
3) Word comes of a need for adventurers, and somehow, each of us gets a personal invite. But when we go to the meeting place, things turn out much different. The war/military action we were called to was a hoax, and now we are to be pitted against each other for someone else's amusement. Those who don't participate get... punished.
7) And to build off something in another thread.. a group of charismatic persons begin to build a following to a new god, new idea, or new principle, and win the masses over to their beliefs.. and seek to remove those who would oppose them. This would require the new villains to be charming, and stealthy.. and would require a bit more effort, as they would be a subtle and seductive evil, rather than in your face evil.
9) The Emerald Fist, a group of Yuan-ti set on reviving their dead Goddess and creator. How do they revive her you ask? one of two ways:
1. Adding to their number and converting people to the worship of their Goddess, accomplished often through a ritual process of turning captives into Tainted ones or, in the result of a failed ritual, broodguards
2. Ritualistic sacrifice. They believe that humanoid sacrifice, when performed properly, not only dwindles the number of the humanoids who hate them because of what they are, but also appeases their Goddess and brings them one step closer to reviving her, an event they believe will result in her devouring the world and taking her children to a place of eternal bliss.
So the Emerald Fist needs to revive their goddess. They begin to operations to get this done. First they send out a group of their most charismatic people to infiltrait the Juxtan/Tavern folk, win them over to the Goddess's cause and remove those who resist. They are a subtle and seductive force: promising things that people really want...and delivering them. Unfortuantly several people just cant be either won over or killed. Thus they are sent a false notice for help in an adventure/war/military action. When they responde they are they are captured and it is shown to be a hoax. They are set in a world/labyrinth/plane where they are subtly set against each other. I.e. to person "A", person "B" (a long time friend) seem to have sold out to an evil cult on that world/plane/whatever. To person "B" it seems that person "A" has sold out. In reality niether have. Complicate this by having twenty or thirty inolved in this tangled web (and some of them actually sellouts) as well as actual enemies and it is almost impossible to sort out or survive through...and The Fist knows this.
So in Juxta and the Tavern people must slowly fight of inflitration and seduction, while searching for a large group of missing firends, lovers, family, and heroes.
In the place where they are captured people must sort out who is friend and who is foe while they are constatly played against each other by the Yuan-Ti.
