Description: Bruce would never be considered a big man, standing at only 5’5” and weighing in at only 155 pounds. Startlingly, his eyes seem to be of a solid green, apparently lacking irises or pupils. His hair is green as well, and long, hanging nearly to his shoulders. Close up one can see that his hair isn’t in fact hair at all, but actually consists of thousands of micro-vines, which seemingly grow from his head. On further close examination, an observer might note a strange green liquid that seems to flow through his veins at odd intervals.

Personality: Bruce is no longer the person he used to be. He knows that, and yet he is oddly not bothered by it. Since the acquisition of his powers, Bruce has found himself even more focused on what had previously only been hobbies. More so, he has been seemingly possessed by an irresistible need to do good and protect the environment. Always interested in what lies beyond the horizon, Bruce is sometimes a bit absent minded.

History: As a young boy, Bruce developed a strong interest in ancient, arcane lore. As he grew older, Bruce continued to dabble in occult lore, however he also discovered a new love in the field of botany. When Bruce found a book combining both of these loves, the Codex of Mythical Flora, he could not resist taking a vacation to travel down to the jungles of South America in hopes of finding at least one of the plants the book detailed..

After traveling through the jungles for many weeks, Bruce finally found one of the plants he had been searching for. The fabled Seed Spitting Spirea was just as breathtaking as Bruce had imagined. Upon seeing it, he knew he had to take some kind of evidence home with him beyond mere pictures and videotape. Warily, Bruce prepared to snatch one of the seeds the Spirea continuously spit among its flowers.

Stretching out his hand, Bruce managed to catch one as it flew through the air. Smiling, Bruce turned, preparing a specimen vial for the spore. Then he noticed her. A small woman, seemingly made of wood, stood before him. Shocked at seeing what was obviously a Dryad, Bruce simply stood there as she reached out and plucked the seed from his open hand. With a gesture from the small Dryad, Bruce’s shirt ripped open, exposing his chest. Reaching up the Dryad shoved the seed into Bruce’s chest and with a surge of pain, everything went black …

When Bruce awoke he found himself laying on a bed of moss, neither the Dryad nor the Seed Spitting Spirea in sight. But Bruce found that he no longer cared. Gathering his belongings, Bruce quickly packed up and prepared to return to his old life.

It was with a shock that Bruce found he had undergone a surprising physical change. His eyes had turned green-on-green, with no pupil or irises to be seen. His hair had changed from its previous blonde to a surprising green, and even more amazing, it seemed to be made of vines!

Over the next several days he discovered several of his other abilities. Among them he found he now possessed the ability to shoot seeds much like the Seed Spitting Spirea at high velocities, rivaling and even surpassing the force of some guns. Giving in to impulses he had never felt before, Bruce began to hone his abilities, preparing himself for his coming crusade against evil.

Power Armor
This armor covers Speedy's whole body. The visor has digital lenses that enhance the ambient light in the area and also provide heatvision out to range of 120ft. The helmet also provides a breathing mask automatically when needed.
Crafted from durable but flexible steel, the armor is designed to deflect incoming attacks instead of stopping them. It is, however, equipped with concussion softeners to lessen the effects of falling and collisions.
The hydraulic muscles of the armor guarantee that Speedy never gets exhausted. Additionally, they increase his land speed and help in jumps.
The advanced defense system also helps Speedy stay away from harm's way.

Jonathan was athletic even back in school. He was aiming to be a professional sportsman, but was picked to test the new suit that would be used by the OCE.
The general production of the suit was cancelled, however, due to the cost ineffectiveness. Only the prototype was kept and improved upon. In time, Jonathan realized that he enjoyed the feeling of the electronics around him and decided that he would be the one to bear the suit.
Due to his lack of imagination, he ended up with the name Speedy.

Description: 21 year old human male, standing 6’2” and weighing about 225, with amber colored eyes and curly blonde hair that catches the light. Brandon is deeply tanned, but not just from being outside. His powers seem to keep his skin at the same tanned level year round. Brandon dresses in casual clothes while off-duty or in his secret identity, but typically wears his costume sans mask when at the base.

Personality: Brandon has learned to control the fiery temper that seemed to come with the powers. He is friendly, helpful, very competitive, and very outgoing. Deep inside, Brandon harbors a resentment for becoming what he is now and fear that there still may be people after him.

History and origin: Brandon Laine worked hard for everything he got in life, including a scholarship to college for both athletics and scholastics. The athletic scholarship was for football, a sport he exceled at in high school as a wide receiver. He earned a starting position on the team after red-shirting his freshman year. Brandon enjoyed the freedom and exhileration of flying down the field, evaded would-be tacklers, and making the big play.

Unfortunately, the scholastics scholarship required on campus work. But Brandon attacked it with his usual zeal, he earned the position of lab assistant / TA to Professor Albert Vernister, a noted chemical engineer and theoretical scientist. The professor's current work, a more economical, self-sustaining and powerful energy source, had received numerous grants from outside interests. The professor worked off of campus property (the college insurance couldn't handle the risk) developing the energy source known as living fire. As an assistant, Brandon didn't know how it worked or why, he just did as he was told.

On a fateful spring night, Brandon was told to work late at the lab with Professor Vernister when several shady men entered the lab - bypassing the security. Men in dark suits and sunglasses comforted Brandon and the Professor and insisted that they turn over the secret of the living fire. Shouting denials, the professor tried to attack the men and the gun-fight ensured. A stray bullet hit something volatile and the resulting explosion knocked Brandon into the containment rods holding the living fire, breaking the rods and releasing the fire onto Brandon. The burning pain was intense and Brandon blacked out briefly. . . and then the pain went away. Brandon got up and looked around - seeing a destroyed lab and several dead bodies - and seeing his hand on fire! But it didn't burn. He saw a man in a dark suit at the doorway and charged him.

"YOU! You did this to me!" Brandon exclaimed as he pointed at the man - and fire shot forth incinerating the man. More than a little frightened, Brandon fled the lab with all of his well-honed speed . . . and tripped on the steps heading outside. He didn't fall though - he floated on the air. Fear turned to wonder, wonder to excitement as Brandon flew through the air - actually flew. By the time he came to his senses, there was no sign of the men in dark suits and the police and fire had responded to the blazing building.

The next day, Brandon was approached by someone who seemed to know everything that had happened. The hero helped him control his powers, with the aid of containment armor. His old life nothing but ashes, Brandon earned his new life - as Phoenix.

The Supreme Intellect

Dr. D. Carl Harrison, The Supreme Intellect, was a mild-mannered grad student at Cornell University, working on his PHD thesis. An exceptionally bright student, he’d already pursued a triple undergraduate major there, in physics, astronomy, and biology (specializing in microbiology).

Late one night while working in the synchrotron laboratory, something happened. Dr. Harrison won’t say exactly what it was for fear that others will try to repeat the process. Some believe he was hit by the electron beam. Others say that the sheer stress of needing to get out before the beam came through ‘unlocked’ the potential of his brain.

Whatever the case, his intelligence began to increase by leaps and bounds. Instead of just one thesis, he completed five in record time, with a good start on a dozen others. He mastered higher dimensional math to the point where he could actually see and conceptualize four or more dimensions, all at once.

Harrison found he could do things just by thinking about them. He understood how the higher dimensions were connected to the normal three, and he found he could ‘step’ through them just as easily as he could step over two-dimensional lines drawn on the ground, though doing so caused him pain and fatigue. He could even induce the rudimentary beginnings of these steps in people and objects around him, though so far only to hurt them rather than move them. There is great speculation as to what further powers his intelligence may unlock.

Soon Dr. Harrison found people coming to him with problems only he could solve, and eventually the police began to seek him out as a sort of Sherlock Holmes for the new millennium. He found that he liked helping people, and made time within his research and teaching schedule to solve crimes and tackle villains. Thus, The Supreme Intellect©, the World’s Smartest Superhuman™, was born. His defeat of the Terrorbot and outsmarting of Professor Prometheus were both widely publicized.

Dr. Harrison is currently on a guest lecturer/crime solving/book tour circuit, and is teaching a class at UC Irvine this semester. He’s a little leery of working for Disney, but it’s a chance to get more publicity for his campaign to promote science, and an especially good way to reach children.

His students meanwhile are sure that he has gained some new powers – superhuman speed on the chalkboard, and the ability to incapacitate with mind-numbingly confusing equations…

HISTORY:

Anh was always aware that her family wasn’t quite normal. Both her parents were super heros, one a little more mystic than the other. Her father was an international playboy and businessman by day, but when darkness struck his secret identity as the Night Raven revealed itself as a global player. Her father’s abilities didn’t dwell on superpowers, mostly dexterity and fun gadgets that he never let her play with.

Her mother, on the other hand, was well known through the superhero world as Lady Dragon, the mystical fighter with the powerful sword, Dragon’s Fang. At will, her mother could call upon her warrior ancestors to aide her in battle, and they would come, coalescing into one powerful female warrior that everyone called Lady Dragon.

The history of this strange power is as shrouded in mystery and myth as the superhero herself. The legend goes that Anh’s family is the direct descendant of the royal family of Vietnam formed under the famous Trung sisters who pushed back the might of China with a army commanded by female generals. When the sisters and their generals committed suicide in the face of massively mounted counterattack by China, their souls, angered by the injustice, flowed into the blood of her family, forever to dwell there, boiling.

Only one female per generation can access the power of the spirit to aid her in times of need. Now with the recent death of her mother, killed by a Super Villain named ironically Blood Fang, Anh has inherited her ancestors. Unfortunately for Anh, her mother died before she could help her daughter understand the full extent of using this power. She still has yet to unlock the power of the Dragon Fang, only using it as a mere sword when transforming into Lady Dragon.

Meanwhile her father has gone off on a crime-fighting spree around the world with his A-List team, drowning his sorrows with work. Anh is effectively alone in Orange County, starting a whole new life as a college freshman, battling the grief of her mother’s death, and struggling with understanding the full extent of her powers.

Background:

Formerly known as Rubber Boy, our hero was a kid sidekick to the Incredible Colossal Man-Mountain, and along with his mentor he was a founding member of New York City's Freedom Squad.

Now that he's grown up, Rubber Boy has decided to strike out on his own on the left coast. Given his shapechanging abilities, his true name and his past have always been shrouded in mystery (even the Freedom Squad doesn't know his true identity). This has led to his new superhero moniker: NE1.

When NE1 first got to California, he settled in Hollywood, getting work as a stand-in / body double both on- and off-screen for a number of powerful movie and rock stars. He has nurtured this side profession into a substantial income and a growing list of influential contacts.

He has joined the Orange County Eight because he sees it as his chance to finally lead a group of heroes (whether or not the rest of the group feels this way :) ). He flaunts his wealth, reputation and experience constantly because he thinks it impresses people.
