The Perfect DMs Screen

I would love to see a DM's Screen That unfolded the "long" way, instead of the "short" way... In other words, the 11" edges of the sheets would sits on the table, instead of the 8 1/2" edges.

That way, you'd have a DM's Screen that was long and low, instead of high and narrow. A three fold screen would be planty enough to stretch across the whole table. And I would be able to see the players over the top of the screen without having to stand up.

I've always thought about building a modular DM's screen... Something similar to the MasterScreen... But never quite got around to it.

This screen from Dragon, is this for subscribers only? Or can I go down to my FLGS and buy it?

Whenever Dragon 310 comes out. It will be $1 more then usual(8.95 I think) for the magazine.

If I'm not mistaken, there's going to be a DM's screen for Monte Cook's "Arcana Unearthed" that uses the "long and low" principle you describe.

Not sure of the exact dimensions, but it seems like a good idea to me too.

You are not mistaken, the AU DM's screen will be the 'long and low' profile. More info here.

I have both the 3-panel and 4-panel Master Screens. I prefer the 4 panel, it does a better job of 'screening'.

They're a little spendy, but they seem built to last.

(The guy at my FLGS crooned about how they were made from Kevlar but so far none of my players have resorted to pulling a firearm on me. My group is more into psychological forms of retribution.)

I have the 3-panel Master Screen from Citizen Games. It's a good idea, but it's just too small - 4 panels is really necessary to get enough information on the screen to make it worth having.

Once nice thing about the Masterscreen - the plastic slipcover idea means I can write on the screen with the same markers I use on my battlemat, so I can put things like my encounters on a sheet inside the screen, and easily check off hit points and spells used, and then re-use the same sheet again later.

As far as what I'd like on a screen - charts that are used DURING THE GAME. XP charts & magic item creation are used during down time. I need weapon damage, the grappling rules, break DC's, skill check DC's, etc.

I've since switched to DM's familiar and my laptop.

Kalamar D&D DM Screen

You can get a virtual tour of the 24-panel Kalamar DM Screen here: Virtual Tour

Also, David Kenzer is currently asking about ways to improve it for 3.5 on the message boards.

MasterScreen Quad

I've ordered the Citizen Game's MasterScreen Quad from the ENWorld store and just received notice that it has shipped! :D

So, now I need to figure out what to fill it with. Has anyone put together what they consider to be the "perfect" or "essential" MasterScreen inserts? Care to share?

Awww, you beat me to it - I was gonna mention that. I'm supposed to start working on the update after GenCon, so anyone's feedback will definitely be helpful. Here's the link directly to the discussion:

And for those of you who are new to our DM shield and checking out the webtour, be sure to look at ALL the quicklinks at the bottom of your computer screen. The first page of the virtual tour seem to only show a 4-panel screen, when it's actually 24.

If Kenzer's screen was totally generic - that is, if it eliminated the Kalamar-specific material and replaced it with generic d20/D&D material - then it would be pretty close to perfect. I'd like to see better art on it, though.
