The Polite Way...

I have a friend that keeps on sending me emails that I don't agree with (they're about politics, but I don't want this thread to go down that path). She knows what I believe, but she just keeps on sending them. I get a new forward, photo, or link to some stupid website every day. It's driving me INSANE.

What is the most polite way to deal with this situation? Have you ever been in a similar situation?

I'm pretty good at ignoring e-mails, so for me if it was just an e-mail situation, I would simply ignore it. If it's bothering you, though, you should probably just tell her that you'd rather she not send you links and photos of a political bent and hopefully, if she is a good friend, she will stop.

I hear what your saying Queen D. It's not that deleting the messages is a problem, the issue lies with the percieved disrespect she shows by continuing to send these unsolicited political opinion pieces, right? My mother in law does the same thing.

Send her a friendly email asking her to stop. Make sure you open the message with something along the lines of "every time I see an email from you I get excited to read about whats going on in your life, and then it turns out to be some political article". Open with the sweet, then slam her to hell.

oops, did I say that?

My wifes aunt was like that, I just ignored her until she went away. Then, she couldn't resist parting with a comment or something regarding something she knew I'd disagree with until my own wife couldn't stand her. She was just plain evil. I say was because she's dead now, probably burning in the "hell of opposite politics". :]

My friend used to do that. He would send me all kinds of political jokes dealing with things I didn't agree with. I wrote and him and told him that I appreciated his sending me jokes he thought I'd like, I didn't like the message in any of them and asked him to please stop sending them to me. He was a good friend and respected my wishes. He still sends me jokes, just not on those particular topics.

Send them links to fetish gear and sex toys. Hourly. :]

If you're not feeling confrontational, and willing to put in a little effort, get the free Mailwasher utility. Then only bounce back the stuff you don't want to see. Accept the rest. If she doesn't get the hint, at least you can enjoy the her confusion in trying to figure out how only half her email gets through to you. :)

Forward her emails to abuse@her-provider.com and tell them to suspend the user's account because they keep forwarding out unsolicited SPAM emails.

She has to at least tell her friend once that she doesn't want the e-mails. After that, it becomes spam. At this point, it's just one friend forwarding stuff to another.

Change your email account and don't give her the new one.

Or, here's an idea that's less disruptive for you: If she won't stop after a polite request, threaten to donate money to a cause she would hate, in her name. If she persists, follow through with the threat. Worked like a charm on a relative of mine.
