The poor, old, forgotten d12? (And d10.)

d10 are white. but they are the d20 0-9 twice. ;)

Just a very brief, semi-related anecdote:

On Monday night I was running a session and the party was attacked by this bloated looking Ogre. The Druid's Dire Lion animal companion was the first to attack and did a pounce. To the surprise of the party, the Ogre's skin ruptured open and out poured 47 baby scorpion people (Stingers from MoF). They swarmed all over the Dire Lion and several stung him. He made all his Fortitude saves except 1 whereupon I announced that "he takes temporary Strength damage to the tune of...*I reach for and roll my d12 as the players' eyes grow wide with horror - I roll a 4* "one point". I was just using it to simulate a d2. But it was fun to see their horror.

The beauty of the d12 is that you can use it to generate numbers for d2, d3, d4 and d6 in addition to d12. If anybody ever asks you what 3 dice you would want if you were stranded on a desert island, the answer is d8, d12 and d20.
 

Well, though I am an advocate for lots of plastic polyhedra of all kinds, I do have to admit that any die roll can be simulated with a d20. d4 and d10 are easy since they divide evenly. d6 divides evenly into 18, so I just reroll if I roll higher. Same with D8s but I reroll higher than 16. D12... it's the hardest to do with a d20 but since I never need to roll it anyway that's fine with me.
Why if I love lots of polyhedra do I have the only-d20 system? I do my PbP games at work and it's a lot easier to hide a single d20 then it is to hide an entire dice bag.
 

Non-standard dice are fine for when you only need to roll one (hit points at leveling or most standard weapon damage) but if you need to roll a ton it gets to be a pain.

Most sets of dice come with one of each type of die and many people have a lot of d6s laying around from board games.

I hate casting high level magic missiles because I usually only have one d4 with me at a game. Same with older editions versions of cone of cold that had 1d4/level damage.

However, I seem to always have enough d6s to cover my lightning bolts.
 

If there's one die that ought to be removed, it's the d10. That's because it's not a proper platonic shape, like the tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron and ikosahedron.

It's even easier to hide "virtual dice" (i.e., a random-number generator) on your computer...
