The Principled Assassin

Bardsandsages

First Post
Assassins lurk in the shadows, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike their targets. Feared by anyone with enemies willing to pay the price, the assassin is a tempting archetype for any gamer. But often the class is not a practical option in campaigns where being an assassin also means being a fugitive by default, and where your fellow adventurers may not be willing to offer the benefit of the doubt.

The fact is, most assassin sourcebooks provide tons of new spells, items, and feats to make the assassin even more deadly. But few provide any means to logically work assassin players into a group unless the entire party is evil. The Principled Assassin by Bards and Sages offers a unique perspective on the class by exploring the church of Galenen. Long a minor deity of assassins, the Great Reckoning saw Galenen rewarded with the addition of Hospitality to his portfolio. In response to his new duties, his followers developed an elaborate arrangement with the authorities.

The Principled Assassin explains how Galenen gained his position, the structure of his church, and how the greater society has evolved to make it possible for his devotees to follow their path without falling into chaos. It is a subtle and delicate balancing act, and one that can add a new level of intrigue to a fantasy setting.

This 11 page PDF provides enough detail to insure that the church of Galenen comes to life, while remaining generic enough to insure it fits into almost any fantasy setting. This is the third product in a series of supplements designed to provide open game content alternatives for fantasy settings. All three PDFs are available in one print booklet at the Bards and Sages Print Bookstore.
