The problem with Sinstra (Game post)

Gregory begins to give thanks, but stops short. He stares at the guard in disbelief. "Pardon me, but I..." he trails off. "Slaves?" he says in a choked voice. "Did I mishear you, good sir, or did you just offer us the once in a lifetime opportunity of working ourselves to death in bondage?" By all the gods, he thinks, I should never have left the city, legal trouble or no!

"Yes, we did say slaves, would you rather come quietly, or do we need to break you first?" "Please do not try anything, we can call for help at any moment." the guard says all of this with calm arragonce, while drawing a small bone horn and his scimatar for empassiss.

" Also," the fat, short one announces rather cheerfully, any smart talk (looks pointedly at Gregory) "will be punished either by torture or by death, as the Jarimijn requires, of course." he says the last part with a tired sigh and something that sounds slightly like a chuckle but is closer to the nose a boar would make while dying.

(Sorry, but I forgot to describe the landscape) The land surrounding Sinstra must have once been a beautiful forest, however now all you can see around the small town are burnt treetrunks and toughts of grass sticking definently out of the ash, however, you do see green on the horizon, past the river you forded through.

Ashan sighs. There's something not right about this, but the law is the law. He starts to step forward to offer himself into custody, but stops after not more than a lean — he looks at the rest of the group inquiringly.

OOC: umm... Oren? what ARE we doing in Sinistra? Why would we be coming to a slave-town that expects to enslave all travellers that come near? Maybe I missed this explanation in the original thread, but I'm sure we players would not be opposed to you filling us in a bit about why our characters would be here. We've done the work to get our PC's here - now you have to do the work to put our characters in motion in your world.

Forgive me for not giving you enough background. Anyway, after moving from your most recent adventure, you were attacked by a huge band of goblins. They harrowed you for several weeks, tiring you out and leaving you food and supplyless. You searched for the nearest town but found only wilderness. THAT is why you came upon Sinstra.

OOC: More questions. Does that mean we already know each other? In general, as far as we know, is slavery common in your world?

OOC: So we're expected to give ourselves up just like that?

"I think we should break for it," says Krug to the others. "I did not come here to surrender as a slave."

"Come now, I'm sure we can go peacefully," says Gregory, bull****ting for all he's worth and laying his quarterstaff- his only visible weapon- on the ground. "I mean, it's not like we could get far." He nods respectfully to the guard, his mind racing. "I would offer you some advice though, for the next set of travelers that comes by here." Without waiting for an answer, he walks to beside the captain and strikes a pose imitative of him.

"Now say some nice, strong bunch of folks turns up- they look like they could do a lot of work, but also look like they could cause you some trouble if they had a mind to it." He bows to his fellow travelers, offering them a clandestine wink on the way up. "Now I'm just a simple wizard, but I'd say it'd be much better if you got them in the gates first. So what you do is..." at this point he switches to a deep booming voice. "... Good day, fine travelers! Welcome to Sinistra. Come on in for food, a nice bed, etc. etc." He stepped back to where he once was and turned around, his voice normal again. "Bless you good sir! I'll just walk into the gate now, with my back turned to you." He matched his actions with words, walking towards the gates then turns and imitates the guard captain again. "Come right in! I'll just follow you, shall I?" He turns back to the guard. "And that’s when you get the drop on them, like this," he says, and dives for the horn.

ooc: Since I could be interrupted at any time during this bit, anybody doing something else before I finish prevents whatever after it from happening. Like if the guard wants to smack me for my insolence, for instance. Anyway, if it goes as above, intiative (13+1=14), with my frantic BSing (bluff check, if needed, 17+10=27. w00t.) hopefully gaining a surprise round. He makes a grab for the horn, rolling a wopping (8+0=8) on the disarm roll. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all....

And as a last note- this is my first time playing by post in a while, so if I've violated any etiquitte grossly (rolling my own dice, what have you), call me on it.
