D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

I would imagine that the more traditionally nefarious factions for player facing options will offer more "Heroic" sects or versions, like the anti-Szass Tamrebel red Wizards or "Self Improvement Through Dragon" CotD.
I look forward to seeing how an over the top Evil doomsday cult that is explicitly noted in text as being based on a mistranslated prophecy somehow ends up being a Faction players can justify joining.

I'm not being sarcastic, it'll either be fun or hilarious. Or mangle it so badly I'll just keep using the old lore.

It's not like the Zhentarim where they just poured their efforts into their already-existing merchant arm of the organization, The Cult of the Dragon had already splintered into near-uselessness and Tiamat managing to unite them enough to try to summon her took a near-literal miracle because she's an actual Goddess.

I'm going to miss the Dracolich sect being the main Faction though, Dragon Liches were so cool.

As noted on the OP, the Purple Drafon Knights haven't juat evolved into a more international organization, but a Multiversal one. Ao Cprpmyr is likely less significant than the PDK themselves as an independent institution now.
Oof, multiversal stuff is NOT good for Forgotten Realms.

The various Planes are one thing, but when you're getting into multiple Prime Material Planes it's just going to be a mess.

Tiamat taking advantage of the final destruction of Sammaster to take over the Cult of the Dragon was a lore update that made complete sense. I wonder if they'll include the splinter sect that was in the comics that seeks to attain draconic power for themselves by transforming into true Dragons, that felt like it had massive potential.

Where did Cormyr get the resources to build the Purple Dragon Knights into a force capable of being a Faction? The last time they were mentioned their Queen had in fact pulled back Corymr's international efforts to focus on rebuilding because the kingdom had been devastated by numerous damaging events. They'd just fought Netheril and Sembia, who would view the Purple Dragon Knights expanding their operations as an obvious provocation.

Parts of Sembia were defended from Shade, by Purple Dragon Knights. Remember the Sembian cities closest to Cormyr joined for protect from the Empire that had taken the rest.

I get the likely reasons by the PDK would expand beyond Cormyr to the rest of Faerun as a consequence of Cormyr expanding in 4e only to contract in 5e, but the Multiverse angle I don't get.

I wonder if they'll be as gone as you think they are, as this art from the new books shows Sammaster and a dracolich!
