It was suggested a few times in the other thread that since the new PDK has little to do with the original lore, but also seems very popular, that ""Purple Dragon Knight" becames a background.

Especially since the 3.5 said "Most are fighters, rangers, or paladins, but a few bards, clerics, and rogues have been known to become Purple Dragon knights." Having a background means you can have any class "uncanny skills related to coordinating and leading soldiers"

And now that background have an origin feat, being a PDK "uncanny skills related to coordinating and leading soldiers"

So something like...

Ability Scores: Str, Dex, Cha,
Skills: Persuasion, Intimidation
Feat: Martial Adept

Martial Adept (origin feat)
You learn two maneuvers of your choice from Bait and Switch, Commander's Strike, Commanding Presence, Rally, ... (not Riposte) from the Battle Master archetype in the fighter class.
You can use them at-will but gain no bonus from the superiority die when used this way.

Or some other leadership origin feat.

Then the subclass is just "Dragon rider" or similar.

Then you could be a Purple Dragon Knight (background), Oath of Glory or whatever.

Edit:
5 is a duplicates, so just vote 4 instead.

Not voting in the poll because it’s doesn’t have the option I want: keep Purple Dragon Knight a subclass, shift its focus to having a Dragon Pet, and add a background for “Cormyrean Solider” or something to that affect.

Make being a Knight of Cormyr a background any class can have, then make the Purple Dragon Knights an elite group of Dragon riders inside that order.

What about something like...

Background: Purple Knight of Cormyr (leadership)
Subclass: Dragon Rider (Dragon)

I think that just means we aren’t getting Purple Dragon Knight as a name in any real capacity so everyone will be mad about it.

Personally I’m in the camp of “cool name should have matching theme.” Purple Dragon Knight gives players this image in their head, and the current lore of the title doesn’t match it strongly enough. So I’d like to keep the name and the pet class mechanics tied together.

I voted for the compromise though, for data points.

4 and 5 are the same, but it won't let me delete the duplicate.

And they are different from 1 in that the name "purple dragon knight" isn't used.
Got it. Personally, I would find options 1 and 4/5 equally appealing, but I’ll vote for 1 since I imagine PDK traditionalists would prefer it.

Based on the text from the UA, I am certain that being a member of the Purple Dragons will also be a Background, since they go out of their way to say that not all Purple Dragons are Purple Dragon Knights.
