D&D 4E The Realms being the first 4e setting

Well, consider this - one of the reasons for Greyhawk not getting much attention has been that it was the default setting, and they they didn't want to... "structure our experience" too much...

Well, they won't have that excuse now, will they? :)
My thoughts exactly.

It seems like Greyhawk now longer being the default setting, along with the "One setting a year" comment might just mean we finally get a Greyhawk setting book.

Hmm... my FRCS is one of the most beautiful and well-done 3.0 books I've never used. Odds are I'll skip the 4.0 Realsms, as I stopped buying FR stuff after coming to the conculsion that I didn't like the setting enough to DM it, no matter how good the production values were, and that no one I played with was going to.

I really hate the Greyhawk gods (especially compared to the FR mythology, before the time of troubles of course.) So it will be nice not having to see them in the PHB.

So what to people think they might have in mind for the Realms?

I've not had much exposure to playing in Faerun, but my 3.0 FRSC has so much great fluff I feel happy using it to run a game in any edition.

What are they going to do to make me want to rush out and buy the 4th edition version?
Re-print of all the material they have put out so far. :(

Opens things up for some good Greyhawk development, though. Maybe internally, maybe externally.

I certainly hope so....

I'm an "old timer" who just plain likes the Greyhawk setting. :\

Be nice if they did SOMETHING with it for a change. :)

I like the idea of a Greyhawk book. I can't say for certain I'd buy it, but it certainly piques my
interest.

The default setting of D&D sounds pretty generic. I remember a Mike Mearls blog post about the core story. Maybe he's thinking that Greyhawk doesn't fit the 4.0 core story? I thought D&D was always about killing monsters and taking their stuff.

As for Thor, I know 2e era TSR was afraid of using too many real-world gods (it did release Legends and Lore, but didn't want to call Deities and Demigods). Third edition obviously changed that.

I wonder if they used any of the gods and iconics from one of the Setting Bibles they acquired during the Campaign Setting Search? That was roughly the same time-period.

I hope: present it as what it is, with a lucid introduction like the 3E Eberron book has, let it fulfil its strengths without obscuring them with gimmicks, whims and rules artefacts.

As a fan of both, I'm glad neither is going to be the default setting for the new edition.
