The Retaking of Forgehold OOC-4E (Full)

I've got no in person gaming group, but I do live across the street from Neumos . I'm thinking about dropping in on Saturday and seeing if I can network a game.

[sblock=Plot Spoilerish]What's that? *closes pdf of "ruins of Adventure* Forgehold is just a big ol' Pools of Radiance ripoff? Hogwash![/sblock]

We need a marching order.

We also need to established what's happening with combat. I'm gonna try textual description combat. If it gets too imprecise I have some grid solutions and ideas.

I did not actually know it was going to take that long to get there, or how apparently late in the day it is, I figured it was morning currently. The night/day arguements that mira was making was that we need to do it in the day time.

Mira woud have argued against going immediately if it meant itwould be night when we get there.

As far as marching order, Mira would tend to be 2nd in the order. I figure:

Defender (Mal)
Striker (Mira)
Leader (Aelek)
Controller (Arden)
Striker (Angel)
Defender (Tesalyn)

As far as combat, the only worry about things being textual is that the vast majority of abilities are dependent on who is in which square, and who/what is adjacent to what.

For example, Mira is going to need to do a lot of flanking, but she wouldn't move to flank in a way that would open her up to other enemies, something may not be clear textually.

I agree with the need for grids, but I'm willing to try other suggestions. I'm also a fan of that marching order that got laid out.

The march order would be correct... for a dungeon. We are in the wild and things won't come only foward, they can come around us and we are not forced to have one single line where the paladin will have to waste time to get in front, won't be able to open with his breath. Even Angel might have difficulty to place her powers if we falls on goblin too far away.

I think Mal configuration is better (he will write down soon his tactic, so I'll leave him the honor as he is teh one who has thought about it)

But tacticly talking, if we have to walk in line, I would not put a ranged rogue in second, I would rather put a melee guy in second to support the guy in front if needed. So either Aelek or Tesalyn.

Putting Telsayn at the rear is actually quite tactically sound - encounters we walk into the front of we'll probably have some warning of, and can reposition ourselves. We're more likely to be flanked or attacked from behind - and in those cases, having Telsayn at the back actually works better because he can tank AND he can get his breath onto the flankers immediately.

At least, that's my take on it. In a dungeon situation, I'd rather have Telsayn near the front.

I have to say, I didn't really understood that it would be dark by the time we reahed the kobold.

Being kinda cousins to the dragonborn, I was surprised that the had darkvision (Dragonborn have normal visions...)

That being said, their lair would tend to be a grotto with no light anyway. We're screwed on that front either way, day or night.
