The return of the lead mini

I should have known something was up when I heard at one of my FLGS' that tin was something like $25,000 a ton, but this was back in April or May.

I think that lead mini's are a good choice. Lead is cheaper and heavier. Short of a massive outcry by parent's groups, we may have the return of cheap metal mini's.

$2.99 for a mini I can paint. Count me in.

Just my 1/4 pound.

Anyone remember when Dragon (I think - IIRC around the early 90's) had an editorial asking us to petition our legislators to oppose a ban on lead minis? They were wrong then, and Reaper is wrong now.

Lead + people is a bad combination. It's not just a problem for kids.

Heck, if you want lots and lots of minis, go out and buy poker chips and put tokens on them. Boom, more minis than you could ever possibly need.

No so odd really considering when restrictions on lead in toys/collectables went into effect back in 1994 no such restriction was placed on things like fishing weights which are plopped by the thousands right into our drinking water.

The key to lifting of these restrictions is that the lead based items must be labeled as being for adults only.

No such ban went into effect for miniatures. It was close in NY State (only) but was stopped.

If you want cheap platic DDM, ...
That's just it; I'm not after cheap plasticminis...I prefer metal. (for minis and music both, but that's another tale) Plastic minis I can get reasonably cheap from lots of places provided I don't mind them being 28-30 mm scale.

Some reapers fit a 1" square better than others. Try looking at the Warlord line. Most of these are made to fit on 1" uniform plastic bases.

For that matter, you can simply buy plastic or metal bases that will fit the grid better. I don't know who makes them, but I have a few dozen, myself.
