The return of the Male Human Fighter!

I want copyrighted thing, copyrighted thing and copyrighted thing!

D'Artagnan is public domain. And even if him, Arthur, Herakles and Gilgamesh were not public domain (say Homer comes back to sue the world to death), you can always use real historic persons, like Bayard (who was able to defend a bridge alone against 200 enemy...).

Why were there so many pieces of art with Regnar dyng??

Because originally, the designers wanted Regnar to be black, but someone higher up said he had to be Caucasian. So, in revenge, they had him dying in all of his art.

IIRC, Monte Cook said once that they wanted to get rid of the human male fighter cliché and they choose a dwarf as fighter iconic.

But the marketing department disliked it and they insisted on having a male human.

Devs had no choice but to obey, so they took their revenge and killed Regnar in every possible way in later books. ;)

And it's d'Artagnan, sacrebleu !!!

I hope 5e has more humans.

You can have your humans, so long as others can play awakened animals, emancipated undead, merfolk, and fey. I once played a human cleric for over 4 years, taking him to level 19 (1e). Then I realized "What am I doing?? I AM a human! Why would I want to pretend to be one, also?" ;)

EDIT: In my current undersea game I allow human PCs... for as long as they can hold their breath. Then they are required to take one of two prestige classes - Anchor or Bait.

Because you're not a badass adventuring human.
