In the last couple of years, Hargash has learned that the new chieftain, Torkal is quite susceptible to flattery and smooth talk. The cagey old warrior has found that a few honeyed words can get him what he wants from the orog, and what he wants is to be useful again. He has talked Torkal into letting him train the young warriors, just as he did when he was chieftain. Hargash has begun to shape the warriors of clan Throat Ripper into an elite fighting force again. Hargash knows that the humans in the nearby towns have grown tired of paying their hard won gold to the orcs in the mountains and have secretly formed a militia some 200 strong. Hargash has not told Torkal this, for he hopes the orog will be slain in the inevitable battle.

Hargash is feared once again, he trains the young warriors with iron discipline and is not afraid to make a deadly example out of any of them. The nickname “old one eye” has been used to describe the ancient orc warrior, especially by the young orcs he trains, a name that Hargash secretly relishes. Under his tutelage the warriors of clan Throat Ripper are becoming a force to be reckoned with once again.

Clan Throat Ripper is no more. A force of over 300 humans led by a group of powerful adventurers descended on the clan and annihilated it. Hargash’s well-trained troops inflicted heavy casualties on the invading humans but they were severely outnumbered. Torkal, the orog chieftain, was slain by a spell hurled by one of the adventurers that caused his flesh to literally melt from his bones. Hargash knowing the battle was lost, looted what he could from his fallen warriors and escaped into the hills unnoticed in the chaos of battle.

Hargash believes he is the oldest orc in existence, and he may be right. He feels that it is by the grace of Gruumsh alone that he has lasted so long, he knows the god must be getting some kind of perverse amusement out of “the oldest orc in the world”.

After escaping the battle that destroyed his tribe Hargash has eked out a meager existence alone in the hills, hunting what he can catch and stealing from the human towns when he has to. He managed to pluck a few choice items from the dead after the battle, including his former sword and armor and a pair of magic gauntlets from Torkal. He also found an amulet that lessened the pain from his arthritis on a slain human adventurer as well as a couple of curative potions. Bolstered by magic and a vast pool of experience he has fended off gnolls and even a marauding ogre that thought the ancient orc would be easy pickings. Hargash spends most of his days asleep in the small cave he now calls home, dreaming of his former glory and hoping that he might die in battle instead of meekly passing away in his sleep.

Death finally finds Hargash in his 78th year. Asleep in his cave, he is awakened suddenly by a stony rumbling and as he climbs to his feet and draws his sword a large portion of the cave wall swings open to emit a group of drow warriors. Surprised by the hoary old orc, the drow none the less set to the task of killing and robbing him. Sorely outnumbered and outgunned, Hargash fights ferociously and manages to slay 4 drow warriors before a drow sorceress blasts him with lightning bolt from her wand. Hargash dies, blade in hand, with a grim smile on his toothless mouth.

Well, I hope you all liked the story of ol' Hargash. It was alot of fun to do.

Stay tuned for the next thread, the story of Myrgle, Gnoll adept of Yeenoghu.

I would be honored if you gave Hargash a nice home in your world. :)

I am about to play D&D for the first time in my life. If this is a sample of how it is done, I can't wait. I don't understand the relationship between your stats and the story, but it doesn't matter at this point. It was simply an awesome story. In fact, I just skipped the stats and couldn't wait to scroll down to find out the next sequence. Me and my little band of compatriots are just beginning a new thread. If you read it you will see that we are "stumbling" along. I would welcome your guidance or suggestions. You can find my entries

And even if you choose not to, Xyffor the Paladin will keep the memory of Hargash, the orc warrior, alive in tales . . . even if he has to kill some of his offspring.

Really great job. Thanks for sharing with us newbs.
