The save DC is Charisma-based?

Sorry, being a bit behind with some of the new stuff, but saw the above on the spell effects listed for the Bone Devil (Osyluth) here:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rs/20030520a

Spell-Like Abilities: At will -- greater teleport (self plus 50 pounds of objects only), dimensional anchor, fly, invisibility (self only), major image (DC 15), wall of ice. Caster level 12th. The save DC is Charisma-based.

What does that mean? Have they added new versions of base saves that different stat modifiers effect? They mention it for a Fort save having a Constitution based save which is obvious, but why say it?

No, no, the save isn't charisma based, the save DC is charisma based: 10 plus the spell level, plus the Osyluth's Cha modifier. That's the way it is now, except the current rules specify this by saying "as a 12th level sorceror".

The biggest problem with this change is that it becomes difficult to tell what the DC is with some spells. For example, is suggestion DC 10 + 2 + Cha mod or DC 10 + 3 + Cha mod?

Look a giraffe wearing a fine stetson made of banana skins!

*runs off quickly*

They're going to do this for all creature save DCs, I believe. Sometimes it's difficult telling what ability score to use, and this may be important if you're advancing a monster.

The exact save DC is listed.

And if you look carefully, his head went back and to the left... and a sound was heard from the grassy knoll...

;)

Indeed. I am very happy with this extra information available to me.
