The Scarab

Casandra

OOC: Khulmumbos is on watch after Osric, in Casandra's suggestion.

"I'm not checking that thing out in the middle of the night. I need my beauty sleep. Not to mention my sleep to get my spells. I'm going to stuff my ears & go back to bed."

Hremelan shudders...partly from fear and partly from the simple cotton frock that he is wearing with no underclothes. "I'm f' followin' the lady's advice - I need me spells or I'm n' good." Thinks back to the incident with the flying bugs. "Or 'em short on a spear..." he mutters and groggily, scratching in uncouthe places, he plods off to bed.

"Sounds fine to me." Ashan heads back to his bunk. He doesn't seem the least bit groggy. Maybe that stuff about elves just meditating is true...

Riss continues looking out to where the noise came from, squinting to try and get his vision to miraculously pierce through the darkness. Eventually he sighs and returns to bed.

Osric loads his crossbow and goes around the railing of the ship, looking for any signs of light on the ground below.

"Kord may know what that was, but he hasn't revealed it to me." He scowls into the darkness. "I hate hearing things I can't see."

As the others go back below decks, Osric again takes his place on watch, crossbow gripped tightly in his hands.

The rest of the night passes uneventfully, each shift taking extra care and being extra vigilant. All (except for the final shift) awaken to the smell of bacon being fried in the galley by the formian.

"Chhkkl! A great .. day for ..Exececec...kkkkkExploring, yes? Whoop whooooop!"

Chapter 3 - The Ruins of Hautama

The Diana lowers to around 30 feet off the ground at the top of a dry mesa and makes a quick look around. Finally, it settles completely on it's rear astral fins. Tchikkatlikkit has arranged a table on the foredeck with several pieces of equipment stacked on top, alongside your breakfast.

OOC- Ok, I need to know what you players would like to do. The formian's charts put you within a 30 mile square area where the ruins are supposed to be.

Basicly any plan is acceptable. As the GM (and the voice of both Ram-Tet and Tchikkatlikkit ) I should reiterate what some typical options might be: search by air, get on the ground and search that way, use spells or other options. It's up to you. You may also wish to investigate the sounds you heard last night or do anything else you like, but I can't really decide for you. Tchikkatlikkit does not actually vote or accompany you, he'll be "guarding the ship" no matter what happens (he's a normal worker formian with 5 hp).

Tchikkatlikkit presents your group with some equipment for whatever plan you come up with. You can take some, none, or all of it.

1 Green Beacon: This is a flat greenish rock inscribed with the dwarven rune for 'Help!' This is a one-use item. Once activated and thrown, it alerts the Diana where the group is and automatically guides the ship to pick you up. It can ONLY Be used outdoors. If it is set off indoors, the Diana will not respond.

2 Spyglasses. These are normal spyglasses similar to the one Tchikkatlikkit uses, and the one Khulmbanos probably has tucked in his pants somehwere.

6 signal mirrors. These are handheld mirrors about 4" in diamter. Outdoors in the desert that can be used to signal each other. Riss can show you how they work.

6 full waterskins.
2 vials of antitoxin.
1 sunrod.
6 torches.
1 flask of acid.
2 coils of 200' of rope.
4 grapplings hooks.
1 10'x10' square of canvass
2 smokesticks (which can also be used as beacons if the Green Beacon fails)
1 bag of multicolored glass beads and polished shells.
You aren't sure why the last item is included, but it is in the supplies Ram-Tet gives to every retriever team. The formian merely shrugs.

Edit: I added rope, grappling hooks, and canvas since your'e in a mountainous desert area and may have to climb or descend cliffs.

"Handy little trinkets." Osric comments as he looks over Ram-Tet's supplies. "I like the bag of shells."

OOC: I'd vote for searching by air. It'll save time, and reduce the amount of sand we have to empty out of our boots at the end of the day. Osric would be looking mainly for the ruins, but he'd investigate anything that looked like it might have been linked to last night's sounds.

Ashan looks over the pile of equipment. He smiles at the waterskins, picks one up, and attaches it to his belt. "You're right gees, Tchikkatlikkit, you and the butter and egg man." Examining the rest of the equipment, he pulls a signal mirror out, and says, "I don't think we want to leave without these. They might come in handy, particularly on a grab and dash like this, if they are what I think they are. Someone'll want to glom that beacon, too. As for how we want to do this, I'd say we scout from the air for a bit. If that doesn't work, we drop into the sandbox and play around." He then turns to the formian and asks for a quick demonstration of the signal mirrors.

"I can help you with that," Riss says to Ashan, "And I agree on searching by air before we have to go footing about the desert."

Riss picks up a signal mirror and gives instructions on how to use them to anyone who'll listen.
