The Scarab

[ooc: lol, none of us with spyglasses managed to spot it :p]

Riss puts the spyglass away and hurriedly draws his longbow, escorting Casandra to the dwarf.

"Those who caught this fellow may still be around," he says, keeping an eye out while Casandra does her work.

"Good thinking." Osric nods to Riss. He buckles on his shield and hefts his mace, advancing cautiously.

He eyes the statue with interest, comparing it with his knowledge of religious icons (Knowledge (religion) +5).

Hremelan strokes Adly's breast feathers, " 'as a good boy, Adly. I knew ya was good fer sumthin'." The bird lets out a series of chirps followed by wing flutters and pecks at Hremelan's hand.

The halfling will look over the railing and peers at the strange dwarf. "Eh...no' one of th' betta situations I've eva seen any in, tha's for cer'ain. Betta keep an eye out for anyone who wan's t' make sure he stays there."

(Hremelan stays on the ship. He readies an action to cast magic missile if things appear to get hostile).

Khulmbanos loads his crossbow. "This stinks of ambush" he remarks to Hremelan. He glances over his shouder, making sure that Tchikkatlikkit's ready to take off at a moment's notice.

Ashan hops off the Diana and follows Riss and Casandra to the dwarf. He unslings his light pick and stands at the ready while Casandra does her thing. He smiles at Riss, "Well, at least that noise hasn't come back."

OOC: Ashan has a readied action to attack anyone who gets near Casandra or the dwarf — if multiple people pass through the area that he threatens, he gets up to five AoO due to his combat reflexes. Immediately before his readied attack, he spends 1 pp and charges his pick with psionic energy (extra 1d4 points of damage on one attack). His eyes flash a bright blue very briefly when he does this.

-----------------OOC----------------------

ok, with 1 hp from Casandra's spell, Delg can talk.

Also, spot checks for characters with tracking (Riss):
Riss : roll 9 (+6 wilderness lore) (+2 Tracking)=17

Riss finds a set of tracks belonging to a huge sauroid (see chart on PHB 131) that walked upright on two legs, and dragged a long, heavy tail.
-----------------------------------------------

Even as Riss is making his discovery, the group discovers the picked and bleached bones of a few more humanoid skeletons scattered in the sandy area beneath the statue; humans, dwarves, and elves.

There are also 3 more sets of ropes tied to the statue that haven't been used. One set looks as if it has been snapped with great force.

Over the next tense few moments, you aren't attacked. It doesn't seem like an ambush. This looks like at least one of the entry-points to the buried city.

Ashan grins at the dwarf blandly. "Hey, bo. A bit of a rough time there, eh? Glad to see you're a bit better." He reaches down to his belt, unsnaps his waterskin, and offers it to the dwarf. "How about some water?"

After giving the dwarf some water, Ashan turns to Riss, "What've you got there, chief? Everything jake?"

"No Ashan, everything is far from Jake. So far in fact Jake wouldn't have a clue about whats going on," he says, surveying all the little tid-bits of information about him, "A massive reptilian creature, huge, was likely the demise of others who were tied here. Our dwarven friend was lucky in that it became satisfied with its meal before coming to him."

He indicates the snapped rope.

"I think the chanting or singing we heard could have been a reptile cult of some kind. My next guess is that they reside in the sunken city into which we are headed," he looks back to the others, a grim expression upon his face.

"Keep the antitoxins handy," he says and narrows his eyes towards the entrance of the cave.

"Damn. I hoped to get through here and back to Ram-Tet without giving anyone the Broderick. No luck there, I guess. If that thing's still about, this will be less than eggs in the tea, for sure. Maybe we should start by grilling the dwarf a bit? See what he knows? Might be good to have a native with us, 'specially if he's friendly."
