I would love to see the original book, Cyborg, made into a movie. It has a much darker, more realistic take on a man having his body rebuilt by science. You couldn't pay me to go see this Jim Carey flick.

Who said you should like it? It was a brilliant film regardless of how you personally felt about Andy Kaufman.

Majestic, truman show good drama acting in less time than Robin Williams

Robin Williams did do The World According to Garp pretty early in his career. A pretty big departure from Mork.

excuse me Charlie Angels, Six Million Dollar man and alot of 70's shows had low brow comedy moments and sometimes were low brow comedy.

They were a product of their time, however they still deserve better than to be fodder for bad parodies in the 90's-00's.

sorry Andy was not that funny except for his Taxi character. Seeing him on SNL he wasn't all the funny. Plus with everyone in the biography show and E going, he was so great when he took on his third/fourth persona and expecting to be cowtow too. Sorry bad actor who would be known as a bad actor if didn't kick the big one.

Garp was a slight workout for Robin as it was a very Dark comedy. And that did not do well if I remember correctly.
Very little in the 70's should not be held up for bad parodies. After all the whole decade was a joke.

Andy was brilliant. He never tried to be funny. He never really wanted to be funny. He just enjoyed screwing with people, and he did it better than anyone before or since.

Andy has no desire to be cowtow[sic] too, as I said sole goal was to screw with people. That was only reason he pulled all of his crap on the set. He especially loved watching Christopher Lloyd lose it over his shenanigans.

Has anyone claimed he was a great actor? We have no idea whether he would have been a good actor or not. If he had lived he would likely have just done weird films that no one understood, but would claim they did understand just because it was the "in" thing to do. He would have made money and laughed at everyone the entire time.

Very little in the 70's should not be held up for bad parodies. After all the whole decade was a joke.

In time you will learn that everything is a joke.

While this little tangent has been fun, it is entirely irrelevant to the original point.

Whether you like Andy Kaufman or not has no bearing on whether or notMan on the Moon was a good film and whether or not Jim Carrey did an excellent job portray Kaufman.

All you did was illustrate your dislike for Andy, which again has no bearing on the subject.

As for Andy screwing around on the set that is different than him wrestling women on SNL and other places. When I caught him on SNL it was like why is this smuck on SNL (oh he a star on Taxi). The World According to Garp was a dark comedy (or at least was marketed that way when it was release) so I don't classify it as Robin's first drama.
Robin had to do more bad comedy movies before he was able to do drama and be thought of as serious drama lead.
Jim was able to make the leap to drama faster than Robin. However both generally did a cycle like comedy, comedy, comedy/drama, drama, and back to comedy. Jim's best work today has been "truman's show" and that had lots of comedy moments.
Robin best work to date has been "One hour photo" which is scary especially when most of cast played against type. I believe if another named actor did the movie it would have been an Oscar nomination. In the show I went to we had people leaving and not coming back.
Also if Andy lived I think he would have been a has been by 1990 since most of his act was one trick pony and bad language. Gee wrestling woman and whispering foul mouth comments in not ready for prime time. So just acting the fool does not make for a great comedy.
Robin, Eddie, Richard P, and others would drop their bad language for better parts.

Sometimes bad things happen to good movies? (I have no idea if "Man of the Moon" was a good movie, since I did never see it, but I know this sometimes happens. I know that "Rendezvous with Joe Black" wasn´t really succesful, though I think the film is superb and certainly one of my favourite ones.)
