The Skirmish Game is Fun

The Skirmish game was surprisingly entertaining.

I bought four entry packs off of Amazon, popped them open and played a 50-point game with three friends.

It was quick, easy, and fun.

My half-orc fighter, half-orc assassin, and Ogre were sadly pounded into the ground. Darn elves.

The command stuff is a little weird, and the morale is odd, and some rules get forgotten, and blahblah, but all in all it was pleasant, and just fun.

This is coming from someone who pretty much dislikes Warhammer. The Skirmish game is easy and still fun and the army selection part is fun with the cards and not weird.

More praise. -shrug-

Just thought I'd post a blatantly positive thread for once. :D

Give it a whirl if you have some minis, but thought the minigame looked dumb. You might enjoy it.

It is fun. It's even more fun when you have the Miniatures Handbook - the scenarios and campaign rules therein add even more to the game.

Not as fun as playing the RPG, nor as playing Settlers of Catan, but I'll take it any day over Monopoly or Risk. ;)

Cheers!

The only thing that really bugs me is the trageting of ranged attacks and spells has to be on the closest target, which means figures can't act intelligently.

Well, at least some figures (like the Arcane Archer) can act a little more intelligently than others, and help other figures act intelligently! ;)

Cheers!

So, does that mean the Min. HBK is worth getting? I havent read much about it or heard anything either.

I think that it's one of the most worthwhile books WotC has put out in a while. Since I'm really into the minis game, the book has built-in value, but I also found that the non-minis stuff (particularly the new core classes and prestige classes) fits quite nicely into my campaign world.

Thanks...

So, then from what you say the book is not just about minis... it does have some d20 stuff in it... Ok, Cool.... Is the mini rules just skirnmishing or is there mass combat.... game mechanics to it?

The minis stuff includes expanded and corrected mechanics for the skirmish game, additional scenarios for the skirmish game, rules for a skirmish game campaign, and mass battle rules.

The mass battle rules look like fun, but I haven't had a chance to try them out yet, so I can't say how well they work in practice. They are different from the skirmish rules in a number of ways (figures are part of a unit that moves as a whole, facing matters, etc...), but they don't look too hard to adapt to.
