The Speaker in Dreams (IC)

Nero Kingsley

First Post
The streets of Brindinford bustle with activity as the fair engulfs the main street through town. The main street - none too wide in the first place - is narrowed further by the carts and booths lining its sides. Fortunately, wagons are prohibited, but pedestrians clog the road effectively enough. Artisans, entertainers, and merchants staff the fair booths, calling to potential customers and trumpeting their wares.
Above it all, two notable features define the town's landscape. A walled keep crowns the hill at the western end of town, and in the center of town, a huge bell tower stands like a sentry.
As you entered town through the eastern gate, the guards peacebonded all of your weapons - tieing swords to hilts with leather straps, placing leather bags over axes; they even made Fionna tie her middle and ring finger together! However, the restrictions are not too limiting and can easily be circumvented.
The guards also explained to you upon entering that the town is divided into several neighborhoods. Currently, you are on the street that cuts Brindinford in half and where most of the fair takes place; Eastgate Way. To the east lies the neighborhood of Eastgate, to the south - Southspur, to the west - West Hill, to the north - Ford North. Silver Hill lies wedged between West Hill and Ford North, and Chatterstreet Market lies between Ford North and Eastgate.

The crowd is tightly packed together, but Ivellios hardly seems to mind the party's slow progress, smiling as he watches the merriment of the fair unfolding all around him. He nimbly twists to the side to make room for a pair of young children who rush past him, laughing, lost in the excitment of the fair. "What a free spirited little town!" he says with a grin, looking around at his companions. "Where shall we head to first, my friends? Broderick, you wished to vist your father, did you not? Do you know where we might find him?"

OOC:
Entranced by the chaotic beauty of the fair, Ivellios is not as aware and watchful as he normally would be. Assume a -4 to any Spot or Listen checks made to notice anything dangerous (which would make his total bonus for each skill a +1).

Broderick frowns at the bag around his beautiful axe.
"Shame to cover up a weapon. But understand why. Hey Fionna, know what you call a peace bonded axe? A club!" and the dwarf lets out a gravely guffaw as he nudges Fionna, nearly into a cart.

In response to Ivellios's question, Broderick replies "I dunno my friend, he moved the shop without me. I only know it's here in the village. Let's find someone who may know and we can stop by. But I think he took a stop on Chatterstreet, so let's start there."

Noraa chuckles at Broderick's joke, then tries to brace Fionna before she bumps into the cart.

"Don't get too distracted," she warns Ivellios. "And keep a hand on your coinpurse."

"Shall we eat on the way?"

You slowly but surely make your way through the throng of people towards the center of town where all the main roads intersect. It doesn't take long to find something to eat as you are flagged down by various vendors behind their booths, advertising their meals - ale, wine, brandy, fried potatoes, beef, roast mutton - the list goes on and on.
You are some 100 yards away from the belltower where the streets intersect, and it is an even more impressive sight up close - though you can also see that it has seemingly fallen into disrepair.
Suddenly, a shout from the middle of the busy fair spreads into an expanding ripple of cries and screams, accompanied by loud crashes that sound like carts and booths being overturned. These ripples of sound immediately transform into a wave of people, as bystanders try to escape whatever is wreaking havoc behind them.

((The ruckus is about 50 ft. away, though you are unable to see what it is. Removing the peacebond from your weapon (or fingers, in the halfling's case) is a full round action. You can try to push your way through the crowd (Strength check), slip your way through the crowd (Escape Artist), or otherwise convince people it's a good idea to get out of your way (Intimidate).))

Noraa will pull the thunderstone from her backpack and run in the direction of the noise, prepared to either throw the stone or loosen the peacebond on her weapon, as seems fit.

She won't remove the peacebond unless it looks like she needs to enter into combat -- she is trying to be as respectful of the laws as possible, mindful of her lawless past.

Ivellios looks up in surprise, dropping his fried potato. "What's going on? Ah!" Ivellios catches an elbow in his side from one of the fleeing townsfolk.

I need to get out of the way, Ivellios thinks, and I need to try and find out what's going on--I should help if I can. I were back home, I wouldn't be at such a disadvantage--from the upper limbs of the trees I could easily see what was happening. A sly grin passes over the lean elf's face as he spots a sturdy merchant's stall nearby. Guess I'll just have to improvise... Ivellios makes his way through the running crowd and begins scrabbling up the side of the stall.

OOC:
Climb Check +0. He'll try and find the closest large stucture he can climb upon and start making his way to an advantageous viewpoint. If at all possible, he'll try and find something 'easy' to climb (with an uneven surface, lots of handhold, etc.)

"Fionna, stand behind me!" cries Broderick and he begins wading through the crowd, pushing away those that would run into him as he heads to the source of the commotion.

OOC:[sblock] Strength check +3, not sure if the dwarven bonus for stability would help here. [/sblock]

Fionna - Halfling Sorcerer

Eyeing the dwarf with a grin on her face, the little halfling replies. "Stay behind you? I'll miss all the action then!" With that, she throws him a dazling smile, runs around him, and towards the commotion.

Darn these peacebonds. I'll let them be though - for now.

Climbing atop a nearby roast mutton stand, Ivellios is able to get a somewhat better view. A particularly large wererat attacks an already wounded guard, and at least two other wererats overturn booths and otherwise create havoc. With a shift in the crowd, he is also able to get a glimpse of a particularly large rat attacking civilians. Noraa, Broderick, and Fionna can be seen rushing towards the commotion, though it will take them a few more moments to reach it.
