Special operations forces are often forced to operate independently and with minimal supply in steamy jungles, remote mountains, desert wastes, and frozen tundra. Specialists exist who are trained to overcome the obstacles presented by these forbidding environments. Reconnaissance experts, these are the Spec Ops Recce.

The Spec Ops Recce prestige class product includes the Spec Ops Recce PDF, the Spec Ops Recce OGC document which gathers all the open game content into a Rich Text Format file, and three graphics from the Spec Ops Recce PDF.

The Spec Ops Recce is from SEP’s Roles and Classes line. Look for the Capable Hero, the Combat Hero, and the Covert Hero, specialized classes from SEP, and the Counter-Terrorism Assaulter and the Special Operations Marksman, prestige classes from SEP. Finally, all the talent trees from these classes are presented in Roles and Classes: Talent Trees Assembled.

The Spec Ops Reece: A Prestige Class for the Modern D20 System, written by Fraser Ronald is an eight page document detailing a prestige class reflecting the specialized training military service members acquire in Special Forces units. The Spec Ops Reece is published by Sword’s Edge Publishing. Design and layout was done by Rob Wakefield.

Its first page, the cover, is simple black with white letters reminiscent of the military manuals found in movies. At first glance this simple black cover seemed to me to be a drawback but as I red on and had a chance to consider the on the shelf implications the design seems to be a boon to the work and a wonderful way to get the perspective reader to pick this book up.

The next four pages detail the prestige class, The Spec Ops Reece, itself in the standard D20 prestige class format. Opening up this book is a description of what a spec ops recce is a highly trained long ranged reconnections expert. The requirements for this class a fairly strait forward and the feat trees seem well thought out and balanced allowing for many different character concepts to spring from this one class.

The end of the fifth page as well as the sixth page detail two such NPC’s with various class levels creating rich and flavorful NPC’s for introduction into your campaign. These two NPC’s are completely designed, detailed with both a background and a full skills, abilities, and equipment list allowing for any game master to simply pull these strait from the pdf. and right into their campaign.

The seventh page is the Open Gaming Content which is standard and required in all D20 products.

The back cover, the eighth and final page, is again black and leaves us with a few more treats to look forward to from Sword’s Edge Publishing.

This pdf. is a great add in to any D20 modern war based campaign adding another level of play with a great attention to detail. Its black front and back cover, beautiful pictures of military men in the field, and the excellent accent of camouflage bordering make this book both a joy to read, look at, and hopefully play.
