The Sunless Citadel (IC)

Gamad

Picking the remains of the apples the other two threw away, Gamad turns to Fala while pulling out the seeds.
Hmm … for certain types of spells.
He says without being asked, slips the seeds into his pocket, casts a protective spell upon himself (mage armor), grabs the rope and Climbs down (1d20+1=9) .

As you reach the bottom of the rope, your foot falls on what feels like sand. The sandy ledge is wide and overlooks a subterranean gulf of darkness to the west. Sand, rocky debris, and the bones of small animals cover it. A roughly hewn stairwell zigs and zags down the side of the ledge, descending further into the darkness.

Before you have time to find out much more about where you are, you hear some rustling from some nearby debris. Suddenly, two beady glowing eyes appear; and then two more - and yet two more! The three creatures leap from their hiding spots and release a feral hiss as they scuttle towards you - dire rats!

((First round of combat begins. Describe your characters actions in game terms at the end of your post.))

Hunolf Hjordsson, Barbarian 1, AC 15 (flat footed 14), 15/15 hp

"Ha ha! Do you come to welcome us, little scrabblers? Then taste my kiss of greeting!"

Reaching up, Hunolf frees Hrungar's Kiss from its restraining strap. Stepping forward, he brings the axe high, then launches a powerful attack at the nearest rat.

Hmm - Invisible Castle isn't responding at the moment. OK, desktop dice roll it is!

Initiative (+1): 4+1=5

Attack (+4): 18+4=22

Damage (+3): 7+3=10

Since he could well be attacked before he has a chance to attack, he'll rage if he's brought to half hit points or below. In that case the attack becomes +6, for a total of 24 and the damage becomes +5, for a total of 12. His AC then becomes 13, and his hp are 17. The rage lasts for 8 rounds.

Order of Initiative:
1. Dire Rats
2. Talus
3. Falariel
4. Hunolf
5. Gamad

The vile creatures are quick to charge you, foaming maws snapping at your heels. One of them manages to pierce Hunolf's boot with a razor sharp fang before being dealt a fatal blow from Hunolf's axe. Talus whirls his sling and looses a stone that hits one of the rats with a loud thud accompanied by cracking ribs. It staggers a few steps before breathing its last breath. Falariel and Gamad attack, but the rat is quick to dodge.

((Strahd, you cannot attack and cast mage armor in the same round. Assuming you attack this round, and be sure to include AC and initiative in combat posts.))
