The Swords of Imarr: Midnight at the Meat & Gristle

Hrothgar muses as he listens to the conversation. "I don't know, as I just told Alyx, I'm not exactly book smart. But even I can recognize when a zero has been dropped from a figure. That's quite a difference old man, sure you can't sweeten the deal? If not with coin, perhaps something else?"

It certainly was nice of Bernard to pay my way tonite. I guess that's just a show of faith but, still, he doesn't mess around once his minds' made up. I hope I'm never on the wrong side of that...
Finishing his glass of wine, Denther rises and walks quietly over to where Bernard and the other group is. He waits quietly until everyone quits speaking.
Making it quite obvious he is keeping his hands well away from his weapons, he speaks to the lady "Greetings and well met to you and your fellows." Looking at the Rigerian and the other man "You certainly do keep... large company. I am Denther Mosie, a tracker by trade but currently being paid by Master Bernard here.
"As I am sure he has told you, we seem to be seeking the same item. An amulet by description and claimed by Master Bernard and his order as theirs. Now m'lady, please take no offense but you've the look of a rogue about you and I suspect that you seek this item for no better purpose than to sell it for a few quick gold. If this item Master Bernard seeks is well and truly his, the only person who would pay more than he for it would be his enemy.
"I have not been in the employ of Master Bernard for very long but, from what I have seen and heard, I would not want to meet anyone who was this mans' enemy."
With that, Denther quietly returns to the table where Lady Faoil sits and finishes nibbling on his food, waiting for Bernards return.

Alyx looks up at Denther and smiles.

"Hi there."

Looking at the Rigerian and the other man "You certainly do keep... large company. I am Denther Mosie, a tracker by trade but currently being paid by Master Bernard here.

Alyx looks to Hrothgar and Rajero, and at Denther's 5'8" frame, and grins.

"He, yup. They are pretty big, ain't they?"

Alyx looks thoughtful.

Bernard looks thoughtful.

"Hm... in addition to the two hundred gold, upon successful completion I can gift you each one curative potion."

Alyx nods slowly.

"Okay... that sounds a bit more like it. I'll take it - plus any other loot we find down there."

Bernard nods.

"Very well. Then sit with me and we shall discuss our plans."

Bernard walk back towards his table where Denther and Faoil sit, Alyx looks to Hrothgar and Rajero.

"Okay, boys?"

She rises to join Bernard.

Rajero joins the other group and introduces himself to all present, "Rajero's sword at your service. Where do we start?"

Faoil sat at the table watching the interaction between Bernard and the trio across the room. She started when Denther rose, but quickly relaxed as she watch him walk across the room to the group. Faoil's eyes studied the manhunter's movement.

*I pray to Crisos that I am not on his list* Faoil thought to herself *I would hate to cut him down in order to maintain my freedom*

Faoil adjusted her hood, to assure her features were concealed within its folds. She wanted out of the tavern before the ill-fated chance of someone remembering her and Himoos.

As Denther reseated himself, Faoil's gaze returned to the others. There was a slight smile as Bernard returned with the woman and tall red-head in tow. She wondered if the dark barbarian would also be joining them.

As Bernard seated himself, Faoil said in her low, cultured voice, "Please Wise One, explain what you mean by I am a Child of Imarok. I do not mind if these others hear."

::Tag the group::

OOC: Wow, a bunch of tall folks huh LOL :p. For everyone's information, when Faoil is standing, she is 5' 7".

Hrothgar

Hrothgar nods in agreement with Alyx, and make his way to the other table. "I am Hrothgar, from Rigeria." He says by way of introduction.

All six - Bernard, Denther, Faoil, Alyx, Rajero & Hrothgar - sit round Bernard's table, making it somewhat crowded.

Bernard shrugs:

"As you wish, milady."

He strokes his beard.

"Imarok is a name given to the legendary First King of Imarr, who wielded the Sceptre of Eternity and who founded this City some five millenia ago. In the course of his battles against the forces of darkness, he defeated two of the Pariah Gods, hateful entities, utterly inimical, loathed even by the other beings of Chaos. They are known only as the One Who Is and the One Other. Imarok used the Sceptre and bound them in prisons deep beneath the surface of the world. However, although they were imprisoned and weakened, they were not rendered utterly helpless, and the Pariah Gods swore eternal revenge against Imarok and his descendants. Down through the centuries they have influenced evil men, dark cults and abhuman creatures to work their will, seeking out the descendants of Imarok wherever they could be found, trying to end his line. At times it seemed they slept for decades or centuries, only to awaken to hateful life.
I believe you, milady Faoil, are a true descendant of King Imarok, perhaps the last. Thus, you and your family are their mortal enemy...
Five years ago a hero came from the West, Yukio, wielding the Black Spear, the Souleater, perhaps the only weapon that could truly destroy a god... in the vaults beneath Imarr, she found and destroyed the One Who Is. But the One Other still lives. The death throes of its brother may have awakened it from quiesence, and it seeks to do you harm, by any means it can employ.
That is all I know."

Grim tidings

I remember hearing tales of The First King and his battles with The One Who Is and The One Other. I always believed they were mere parables, meant to lead men towards the righteous paths and away from the darkness of the soul. Now, I am not so sure. If lady Faoil is a descendant of The First King as Bernard states, and I have no reason not to believe him, then that would necessarily mean the The One and The One Other also exist although, apparently, The One Who Is was defeated.
If all this is true then that means that in order for Lady Faoil to protect herself she will need some mighty enchantments, Perhaps even this 'Souleater' that Bernard mentioned.

"These are grim words indeed, Master Bernard and ones that bear much thought, especially by Lady Faoil. I cannot help but wonder what impact this may have on our coming search for the Amulet."

Rajero

"Enough!" Rajero seems extremly impatient. "No more talk of 'Those who Were or Are or Will be'. There is some loot to be gained, that is why we have agreed to join you. This dribble you speak about lost and slaine kings is adequette for a good camp fire, not for those who need gold to line their pockets. Be so kind as to point us in the direction that leads us to wealth, not myth. You can do so on our return - and reimbursement of course."
