First Post
I saw this book this past week and it looked interesting, but I wanted to get an opinion from someone who might have read it already,

Thanks

oh it was written by Raymond E. Feist

I read this book and its sequel as well. I really enjoyed both. It has some of Feist's standard elements: young male hero, crisis, his growth as he faces challenges including dealing with his past. It's a tad different than the SerpentWar Saga in one regard. This new series involves more intrigue, covert dealings, etc. The events very much fit the series name, things happen more in the shadows.

If you enjoyed the RiftWar saga, Legends of the RiftWar works, or the SerpentWar saga, I'd really recommend this book. I definitely find it a substantial improvement over the Krondor series.

I read this when it came out a year ago. I'll tell you to wait until the first of April to pick it up, because the second book in the series comes out on either March 30 or 31 (unless you're in Europe, then it was out a while ago).

It's a standard buildingsroman, set in part of the Feistian world, Midkemia, which up until this point was only referred to in passing. For someone trying to catch up from The Rift War or the Serpent War, it's plain that a lot of things have changed. I would definitely recommend reading the Serpent War Saga before diving into this book. Other than that, it's a great book. I'd recommend it to anyone who has read Feist and enjoyed his stuff.

And for any San Diegan Feist fan, you can visit the author in April at "Mysterious Galaxy" in Clairmont Mesa (check the store for details). And while you're there, you can go down a couple doors and visit Game Empire. :D

Learn something everyday. Never hear that term before.

...a piece of writing that documents a person's growth or development.

I can attribute that bit of vocabulary to my German teacher in High School - he was also my AP English teacher, so he thought I should learn the word because the term itself was derived from the Romantic Road in Germany. I use it quiet often in my English courses.

It's a pretty good book. Like most of Fiests stuff it is fast moving, and easy to read and follow. I've been enjoying his stuff since Magician Aprentice. :D

How many books are in that saga? Quick search on amazon turned up four, but I just want to make sue there is no others.

There are four books in the serpent war Saga

There series are as follow:

Riftwar Saga:
Magician: Apprentice
Magician: Master
Silverthorne
A Darkness at Sethenon

Son of Krondor Series: (newly named for their re-release)
Blood of the Prince
King's Buccaneer

Serpent War Saga:
Shadow of a Dark Queen
Rise of a Merchent Prince
Rage of a Demon King
Shards of A Broken Crown

The Legends series is also out there, but I really wasn't enthralled, as they didn't particularly contribute to the series well.

If you can, I would stress reading them all - they are that good. The King's Buccaneer also gives a bit background information on the Serpent War Saga. Great books all around.
