The OA ranger still has the option of dual wield but can forgo, as you say, spells in favor of up to 4 fighter feats (excluding weapon specialization). I think that ranger makes its own statement (as a martial ranger) but I doubt it would satisfy those in favor of mystic ranger types or more "woodsy" type.
