The ultimate guide to D&D?

What? Since when was there a hierachy? All it takes to be the DM is the willingness to do a little (or a lot) more work than the players and in the case of many DMs I know, also the willingness to spend a good deal more money on books. I've never heard of a gaming hierachy, but then again, maybe I'm just not hanging around the right places.
I like the idea this book could bring new players (I like the idea of anything that brings new players), but I really hope they all don't show up thinking there's some sort of pecking order they need to get into.

I think they may have been talking to Jack Chick. :uhoh:

Market research indicates that 4 million American males, ages 8 to 45, play Dungeons & Dragons, while 7.6 million who haven’t played say they want to learn how.

"...as long as you don't tell my cool friends that I play D&D...."

Yours must be a Chaotic gaming group, like ours. Lawful ones (I've heard of them, never seen one) have hierarchies for everything, from DM rotas to who gets to bring the Mountain Dew.

I just started DMing a new group; plenty of experienced players, and a couple of girlfriends of the experienced players. They have never played but don't want to be separated from their significant others for 2 afternoons a month.

Let me just say that this book cannot be released soon enough for me.

So, we can point this to those people who ask what is an rpg and what is D&D? nice shot, and they will also feel more like in their place...

I foresee a paradigm shift in the gaming industry by 2008. All  people in highschool will be avidly rping wizards, rogues and warriors, while jocks and hot chicks will be societal outcasts, existing on the few coppers of pity shed by their former peers. It will be UNCOOL not to play DnD!

Keep the dream alive, Narfellus!

I'm hoping it has all the rules the PHB does so it can be used as a good reference. The PHB is not very well organized for looking something up slam-quick, but dummies books usually are. Not to mention, it's $10 less than the PHB, so it makes a great choice for those who like to have extra books around.

IF it contains the whole SRD.

Somehow I get the feeling that it will be less of a rules-explanation guide, but more of a guide as to what D&D is and how to get started. It may explain a few rules, like how to make a character, but will be more about D&D's origins and how to go about finding a group.

I guess we'll find out when it comes out.
