The Voor Larva

Based on the revised text, should we change the Environment to Astral Plane and add the Extraplanar subtype?

Claws should be +16 (+9 BAB, +7 Str, -1 size, +1 Weapon Focus).

LA: +7 (Heck, illithids are playable, so why not these guys).

Don't forget to add fast healing 5, weight, and trill caster level.

Hey, I know I'm late for the party, but I want to throw in my own two cents:

The original creature seemed to be one that attacked ships, not living hosts. Making it a slaad-egg kind of critter deviates too far from its origins, I think. I think it should only grow off of non-living materials, and only then go after living creatures.

I would suggest that the dust sticks to creatures, but detaches when the creature comes back to the prime. It grows in some dark, dusty corner, taking 1-4 hours to hatch.

This way it can grow near where adventurers camp, or in their home base.

As to why it attacks humanoids, I suspect that the voor larva has a kind of racial programming that makes it naturally regard humanoids as slaves of its illithid enemies.

I’m going to say “no” to that, largely because we decided that they would be “born” after they leave the Astral. :)

Only in an epic level game then, with an ECL of 19. ;) but yeah, I guess that might be an interesting play…

all valid points. I wasn’t entirely sure that the slaad-egg killer thing was the way to go, and I’m still not. I could go either way on that. Of course, your suggestion would take up a whole lot less text than what Shade wrote up. :D it’s something to think about.

Fair enough on the Environment/Extraplanar bit.

As for the ability to hatch in creatures, I'm torn. On the one hand, it is true to the original to keep it as objects-only. On the other hand, it is a much more useful ability if it affects creatures as well. While I usually propose staying as true to the original source as possible, sometimes creatures need a slight boost to be viable in 3E. I suppose we could toss up a quick poll here and see what others think. Or we could send it in with both options and let the editors decide. :)

Well, regardless of the medium of growth, should these two sentences (referring to the mists) be in plural form?

This ancient mist stores voor dust, which can infest anything that moves through it. This instrument of the voors’ vengeance will attach spores to any creature or object, which will grow into new larvae.

there really isn’t any more time for polls. It’s time to make our own solid decisions. I’m fine with keeping it in, but if the editors say anything at all about the article being too long, that is one thing that goes for sure.

not sure what you mean. I don’t see anything wrong with the pluralization in those sentences.

What I meant was this:

These ancient mists store voor dust, which can infest anything that moves through it. These instruments of the voors’ vengeance will attach spores to any creature or object, which will grow into new larvae.
