The world of Energis

First Post
Beginning idea: Somewhere in outer space, two tears in space occur simultaeously; like black holes. But instead of vaccum or some such void, there are two opposite forces. Positive and Negative. Not like a magnet but like the energy from the planes of existance themselves. Over billions of years the opposite energies collect a mass amount of space debri. With the inadverdent help of those energies and eventual lack of space the debri form a planet roughly the shape of a fat egg.

Bad place to happen: This planet has a small problem. This egg-like planet decided it was going to form on the edge of the orbit of a small planet. So every year (for this is how Energians tell if it has been a year) the obiting planet, much more small than the egg-shaped planet, collides with Energis. It cuts deep into the planet creating a legendary chasm of gigatic proportions. Consider the size difference of planets to be Jupiter (Energis)/Mercury or Pluto(obiting planet).

Where do they get light? From the neighboring solar system that the obiting planet comes from. [haven't decided this yet] 1) The planet doesn't rotate. This means it is always day or night depending on where you are on the planet. 2) Due to the imperfect balance of positive vs negative (negative being dominent) rotation of the planet occurs.

More later. Feel free to post ideas.

as I was saying...

:o I think I want magic in Energis to have a Dark Sun kind of feel where, instead of mages feeding off of the earth, the magic users feed off of the positive and/or negative energy. Wizards have learned to manipulate this energy through intense research. Sorcerers have been fused somehow with one of the two energies with the rare occurances of a positive-negative mix. I would like there to be consequenses that the arcanists have to face depending on which energy force they draw their power from. Bards would be in a slot all in its own. I like the idea of using the ideas of Monte Cook's revised bard in Book of Eldritch Might II.

Races: All of the core PHB races + 2 new ones that I'm using out of the character race compentium; the Luminous(spawned from the positive) and the Eleti (from the negative).

Powers or Dieties: This is a big issue. To be honest, tis is what I need the most help on. *Any ideas or suggestions are most welcome.*

Really, I would like anyone (this means you) to change or expand on any of the ideas that I present.

Ok. I think I got the answer to the power problem. There won't be any powers. Not in the traditional sense anyway. I think the idea behind this setting, so far, should be backed by elements and belief. Clerics will be able to worship these elements and/or beliefs like they would deities. I'm recalling something out of the 2nd edition PHB that is similar in style. Here are some core beliefs/elements that a cleric could adhere to. I would say a player could pick up to two of these as core beliefs. Along with these core beliefs they could also pick law, chaos, good or evil respectively. I would say that the core beliefs must be within 1 step from each other (Ex: Hunt and medicine could not go together but hunt and lightning could). Cleric alignment would work the same way as in the PHB.
To sum up, Demetrious the Cleric decides he will embody the beliefs of Family (neutral good) and Healing (lawful good). This means he has these domains to pick from: Healing, Family (out of the 3E FR campaign setting book), good and law. For his cleric alignment he could chose lawful good or neutral good.
(Note: If demetrious did pick neutral good as his alignment, the DM could rule that he is not allowed to chose law as a domain. Duh!)
Earth: lawful neutral
Fire: chaotic neutral
Water and Air: neutral good
War: lawful evil
Agriculture, Renewal: neutral good
Craft: neutral
Death: lawful evil
disease: neutral evil
Healing, medicine: lawful good
Hunt: Chaotic good
Lightning: Chaotic neutral
Love: chaotic good
Nature: neutral
Oceans: chaotic neutral
Peace: neutral good
Strength: any
Hatred, oppression: lawful evil
Murder, betrayal: chaotic evil
Animal: neutral
Plant: neutral
Destruction: chaotic evil
Knowledge: neutral
Luck: chaotic neutral
Protection: lawful neutral
Travel: neutral good
Trickery: chaotic neutral
Corruption: chaotic evil
Lust: neutral evil
Pain, Torture, suffering: neutral evil
Family: neutral good
Fate: lawful neutral
nobility: lawful neutral
Undeath: neutral evil

Druids (and rangers when at the appropriate level) will worship all elements simultaneously. There could also be Prestige Classes to have druids "specialize" in an element.

Anyway, just a thought. If anyone has anything to add, feel free to post.

Thanks :D
