D&D 5E The Writing Style and Tone of 5E

Legend
The cold mechanical language in early 4e was part of what kept (drove) people away. I don't see it returning in any comparable way.

I have to agree here.

When it first came out, I was very much in the 4e camp of clean, streamlined language. I thought it made a lot of sense and would ultimately make the game better.

But I found something I didn't expect. The 4e rulebooks are a chore to read for me, while the 3e books I enjoy reading. I can actually sit down and read through the 3e PHB, but I have never done the same with the 4e one.

So I think the designers had the right idea, but it just had a big negative impact they didn't expect. So time to go back to the old style.

It started in 3E, and it's just awful.

I Guess it started on Black Wolf books... but not sure.

It was horrible. Seriously, 4E has the only MM I just hate to flip and read... I understand some people like it that way, straight to the sheet, but I just can't stand it :erm:
