There are to many PRC's and Feats (a rant)

And having too many choices is a problem.... how is that again? All you have to do is say "only core books, and then new stuff as I approve it." Simple as that.

My sentiments exactly!

No pc in my campaign selects a prestige class, spell or feat from anywhere outside of the core books (that's the PH, MM and DMG)
without consulting with me first. That's because I _don't allow_ a lot of it. Sometimes it's a balance issue (arcane trickster, hospitaler, the 'orb' spells), sometimes it's a flavor issue (dragon disciple; I already have a dragon priest prc). Whatever. If it isn't in the main books no player should count on it being 'in' without checking with the dm.

I support the use of the "spellcheck" button on the posting worksheet window.

If you were flaming my spiyylng or spelling, the button doesn't work on my system and I am not going to open word every time I post.

Sorry

Sorry

Just an FYI, you don't need to do it everyti=me ytou post. However, when you post something large like the first post of this thread, is is a good idea to do that.

Fair enough. I will admit to a certain laziness about spelling matters on a discussion board

I figure as long as the context is clear, who cares?

However if it is annoying I can do something about it next time

Some times it's not easy loving a setting or a particular book. I know for me, R&R didn't open any more can of worms than the ones I found in Magic of Faerun and/or in Tome and Blood. I'm sorry that people didn't think before they allowed shadow touch, or wished to god they'd never given out that champion's helm, but I also think it's unfair to be judgemental about a book without FULLY reading it and/or being clear on what the contents are. I know for myself, I do tend to limit a good bit of the Pr-classes and feats, but only in a case by case basis, especially where it concerns a setting. I feel the FR has enough pr-classes NOT to worry about the stuff in Tome and Blood. Same is true in my beloved Scarred Lands. The pr-classes I might allow, are usually from MotW more than any other. Mainly BECAUSE much of Ghelspad is a wilderness based campaign, at least in my view.

Anyway crunch no crunch, I will say what I find enjoyable is a VALID reason for having such feats and Pr-classes.

Now if you excuse me, I have to get back to making my epic level Horsemen of Vangal. ;)

Awwwwww......screw 'em. Don't woory abot speeling. Theys just beein picy.

Seriously, most people don't care about perfect spelling, and if they do, oh well.:)

Not saying that anyone on this thread has done so, but there's a difference in worrying about the odd mis-spelled word, and trying to slog through posts so poorly written and spelled, with no punctuation or capitalization that you can't hardly make out what it's supposed to be about.

I'm actually surprised that there's quite a few such posts on every message board or list-serve I've ever joined.

And "chat-speak" absolutely drives me up the wall.

Variety is the spice of life, it is the quality and lack of balance between them that gets hard to handle.

With so many companies making D20 products adding feats and PrCs it is impossible to see how they will affect each other and can leave a DM feeling stupid when a PC has something similar to examples found in the Sultans of Smack thread. It is as difficult matching feats together as it was matching computer components in the late 80s and early 90s.

I like feats. More of them is better..but if I see another product with a feat that's mechanical effect is "+2 to 2 skills related to the name", I'm going to puke.

I have no use at all for prestige classes. For the most part they seem Ill-balanced (Veshian Vigil pops to mind) or just so seting specific as to be useless to me.

The only PrC I've ever allowed in the game was the "Purple Dragonknights" (or whatever) from the FRCS...one of my players wanted to lead men in battle effectively. It seemed to fill the role without overpowering anything.

there are very few concepts I'm willing to allow in the game that can't get done with simple multiclassing.
