There is one thing about the Scout that annoys me

The Scout is really only good for one thing: teh funneh. :p

edit --- and the Wilderness Rogue kicks its ass every which way to the 666th layer of the Abyss. :)

Your point? there are a few other classes that are immune to grappling. Like the Druid (who can cast Freedom of movement) and the high-level rogue...

Freedom of movement. A high level Scout is absolutely immune to grappling, which is just strange beyond imagining.

Well, y'know that's an 18th-level ability. Characters of that level are often immune to a whole lot of stuff. They can also use the Hide skill without actually having anything to hide behind. And they can stand in the heart of a fireball without getting burned (just like rogues and monks). Wild and whacky stuff, as Johnny Carson used to say.

Bear in mind that a ring of Freedom of Movement retails for 40,000 gp, and page 135 of the DMG tells me the average wealth of an 18th level character is 440,000 gp. Or, coming out of a caster, it's just a piddling 4th-level spell that will last three hours a pop.

I've got to say it's no big whoop.

It isn't a SUPER huge big deal. But I do admit this is one of the more powerful abilities of ANY class. And why just the scout? Why didn't the rogue get this too?

Pretty clear why scouts get it. They rely more on mobility than any other base class ever has. A scout that can't move has lost his reason to live...

True that. But rogues are supposed to be able to "slip" out of sticky situations too.

I'm thinking mechanical reasons more than any other. Never mind grappling, there are just so many things which can restrict movement which pretty much nerfs the scout.

A grappled rogue can sneak attack his grappler, which makes grapping rogues a bad idea at those levels. A simple entangle spell completely strips away a scout's main ability.

But, yeah, this is a pretty minor ability for an 18th level character.

You'll want to re-read the rules on that...

No Dexterity Bonus: You lose your Dexterity bonus to AC (if you have one) against opponents you aren’t grappling. (You can still use it against opponents you are grappling.)
