I'm out of touch - what's a Secret Lair in MtG?
Secret Lair is Whale-targeted DLC for MtG.

These are highly expensive, highly limited-releases that often cross over with other properties or have some sort of famous artist collaboration or classic MtG artist from decades past.

This particular Secret Lair release is 5 foil cards for $40. I've seen other Secret Lairs selling similar # of cards for like $100. Now very rare cards can be that expensive on the resale market, but these are made specifically to target people with big wallets and/or with spending addictions.

I love the flavour of MtG but I HATE the way the brand preys upon gambling & spending addictions with FOMO. Most of us are susceptible and I even hit the buy button after looking at this despite not really caring for these particular cards, just because there was a count down timer.

I guess the DDB marketplace is becoming the Wizards of the Coast marketplace? Seems strange to sell non-D&D products via a D&D-specific store.
It's a collaboration. They want to see if they can cross pollinate.

🤷‍♂️ I've had a checkered past when it comes to MtG, but my brother did get me the Godzilla Secret Lair cards when they came out as a birthday present - that was pretty cool as I am a very big Gojira fan.

When the likes of the first few MtG D&D campaign books came out I was pretty happy (Theros was definitely the best of the lot), but Strixhaven was a big disappointment and I think I'd rather go back to the two properties staying at arm's length. Magic's 5-color mana system just doesn't mesh well with D&D's magic school system and there isn't a great path for non-casters in MtG worlds.

I don’t care for secret lairs either, but I do think describing them as highly expensive is kind of misleading. They usually “pay for themselves” in terms of secondary market value. Like, buying singles of all the cards that come in a secret lair from TCGPlayer or Cardmarket or whatever would often be more expensive.

Sorry – I've never been a re-sale person of like ANYTHING in my life (I unbox amiibo and play with them, for example), so they probably feel more expensive to me than they would to someone who sells their old cards at the FLGS.

I just want them to release a Bloomburrow D&D setting once that set comes out.
I WANT THAT SO MUCH. REDWALL X D&D!

I mostly agree, but I want one more product, a compendium of the Planeshift articles, polished and updated, that would also allow them for dmsguild. Maybe add a few more like Duskmourn, Tarkir, Kamigawa, or Bloomborrow.

Then with all.those open to dmsguild, folks can do what they want with them and D&D designers can completely move on from.MtG.
