I ran the first post-ELH encounter for my high level campaign tonight, and they ran from an Iron Colossus which was of a CR several levels below the average party level. I must be doing something right.
(Mind you, that was the right choice - the encounter was at the bottom of the sea - the PC's had used magic to turn into aquatic elves, and once they witnessed the anti-magic field the thing radiates . . .)
