I think I played Marathon 2. It was a pretty cool game.

I did notice, when reading a co-worker's Halo novelization, that the whole "AIs leading you around by the nose" seems to be a common element.

I don't know if this is still going to happen, but I had heard Marathon 2 was going to get released as an Xbox Live game.

From what I had gathered, Bungie was semi-free willed as part of MS. I'm sure the contracts were simply coming up on 7th year and rather than lose developers, MS would rather grab up an exclusive deal with Bungie Independent rather than lose the heart of the division.

I"m sure the money came up here and there, and heck, Bungie wasn't exactly making a lot of games for MS anyway. (Sure, 3 big ones, but 3 games over 7 years...)

I hope they continue to publish quality games.

There's a very well done 3d remake of Marathon for UT called Marathon: Resurrection, which I highly recommend. Only slight flaw is keeping the lack of crosshair, but not the Doom-style auto-aim, which works fine for single-player once you get used to it, but is no good for multiplayer.

For that, you want Marathon|Rampancy, which is a multiplayer-focused mod inspired by the series, and is quite fun.

The noob-cannon-ness of both versions' rocket launchers remind me of Halo . . .

Aleph One is also a really good replacement engine once you get it modded out. And the multiplayer is crazy fun.

It reminds me a lot of the old Rare/Nintendo relationship.

In a way, Bungie is now a sort of 2nd party developer for MS.

I got the same thought, then I started thinking about what happened to RARE after that broke up
