Thief-Acrobat's Unbounded Leap ability

NPC

First Post
Not sure this is really a rules question but here goes . . .

We've just taken the "leap" :) from 3.0e to 3.5e. My Thief-Acrobat player is wondering how is character's Unbounded Leap (Ex) ability works in 3.5e.

In 3.0e, Unbounded Leap removed the distance limit on Jump checks for the Thief-Acrobat.

In 3.5e, since you can't jump further than you can move in a round, how would you modifiy this ability for 3.5e? Should I just give the PrC a +3 to Jump checks? Or allow the ThA to jump further than he can move in a round (seems a bit unbalancing to me)? Maybe let him make Jump checks with only 10' of movement?

Thoughts, suggestions?

It's possible to jump further than you can move, but the jump takes longer than one turn. From the SRD: "If you run out of movement mid-jump, your next action (either on this turn or, if necessary, on your next turn) must be a move action to complete the jump."

Wouldn't that mean that for the rest of the round, until the character moves again, the character is airborne (and possibly hovering)?

Airborne when the other characters take their actions: yes. Hovering: no, because the initiative system is not actually meant to represent everybody calmly taking turns.

So, if you jump farther than your movement speed, it simply represents a jump that takes longer than 6 seconds, which does mean that everyone else gets an action (or several) while you're in the process of jumping.
