Thief, the Dark Project, the RPG?

It's that time again. I'm thinking of running a dark fantasy game set in Looking Glass Studio's Thief, the Dark Project setting. It's a wonderful world, full of Law/Chaos opposition, dark alleys, mysterious magic, horrible monstrosities, and references to the Great Old Ones! Thing is, all the setting information out there has to be inferred from the 3 Thief games. I know some people have done this already, though, and I was wondering if any of them happened to migrate over to EN World over the years.

So, what this comes down to is a request for links to and discussion of Thief setting information. I've talked to the TTLG forums about this, and while they're helpful in some regards, they seem to have a hard time looking at things from the perspective of an RPG rather than a computer game.

Can anyone here offer any information or advice? What I'd kill for is a map of The City!

I've seriously thought about doing this with Grim Tales and some steampunk add-ons. I don't know who has done what in the past but it has so muhc potential.

I think Grim Tales would be a good fit for this.

Sigh. Now I want to drop everything and play Thief. Too much work and not enough time for fun.

"What was that!? Hmm... Must have been the sweet pingings of a boiler."

The Thief setting is just so awesome. It has a great story, a realistic setting, cool gadgets and TONS of 'mood." The whole "feel" of the game is awesome and very believable. Stumble into the guard captain's bunk room and you find his poorly written complaints about his wife and hints as to his master's recent comings and goings. Stumble into the priests chambers and you find eloquently written praises of The Builder.

Hell, I can remember one level -- the one with the ghosts in the library -- that was so scary I had to just use a cheat code to by-pass it. This is AWESOME stuff. Quite the opposite of hack and slash bullcrap with some 733t d00d named Phil MCCrack.

I would die to be in a campaign that was true to the spirit of the Thief series.

I absolutely adore Thief. It was a major inspiration for the longest D&D campaign I've ever run. I was thinking of running a Dark Project game in OGL Steampunk at some point.

If I recall correctly, our very own Piratecat did some work on the Thief games. If I am right, maybe he can give us some insight. I pretty much agree with everyone elses sentiments about the Thief games, and a game in that setting would be very cool.

*Drool* You aren't in Los Angeles, per chance are you? :)

Pssst, Melan, they're calling your name ;)

I love Thief---it's the only computer game I play. It would make a fabulous tabletop rpg setting, especially if someone would produce licensed miniatures too! :D

Sorry. Manchester, UK. :)

The d20 campaign inspired by Thief was set in a riverport city based loosely on New Orleans. Rather than one central 'thieves' guild' there were four feuding crime lords, struggling for territory. All the characters had to have at least one level of Rogue. The experiment was to see whether stacking up the opposition and obliging the party to rely on stealth and guile (a la Thief) would work in tabletop. It worked very well.

A fair chunk of that campaign plan made it into the Rogues' Business chapter of Drow War I.

The concept could also make a good basis for a mini-game. Something designed specifically for one player and one DM would be best.
