Things I LIKE about Mongoose

They took chances. Lots of there early work while rough, seriously tried to expand the rules and do things that cannot be done in the core rules.

I like Mongoose stuff because when I read it it always makes me want to tweak it (the rules that is, not the nipples) and use it in my own game.

They brought back Paranoia. That alone makes them a top tier company.

I thought I would hate Paranoia XP. I got it a couple of days ago, basically on a whim, and discovered that I loved it. The styles of play was a great idea. Perversity is a great idea. And keeping some of the classic Paranoia articles is a great idae. Plus, they got Holloway to do the art (or at least reused all the Holloway art).

I heart this book.

Now, if I just had Ultraviolet security clearance so I could read it....

Yes, given the lack of nipples in WotC's product (other than BoVD), Mongoose is certainly filling a gap in the market.

I like Mongoose stuff because when I read it it always makes me want to tweak it (the rules that is, not the nipples) and use it in my own game. So much D&D product I've got I never use. Apart from Slaine I've had at least some use from every Mongoose product; and Slaine has pretty pictures at least.

Ayuh, I'm another (rules) tweaker. I treat the D20 and OGL material as an enormous sald bar, and Mongoose adds to my salad bar like few other companies. (Legends & Lairs, now defunct, was the other green grocer of choice.)

And I like cobbling rules together! (Like the above mentioned OMCS/Steampunk attempt.)

Why did you get a book you thought you'd hate???

There were a lot of positive reviews. Also the situation was somewhat abnormal.

I have a hard cap of $40/month for gaming. However I wanted to make a rare (as in once or twice a year) exception and go over because I'm about to land a new job. I wanted instant gratification. I did not want to wait for Amazon to deliver. I wanted a book and I wanted it right now. I also wanted to branch out and try something new.

I was going to get d20 Future but my FLGS didn't have it.
I was going to get d20 Past but it was a lot shorter than I thought it would be.
I was going to get Talisantia d20 but it also was a little shorter than I thought and I was worried that I would just be getting a race book. (Maybe I'm wrong here)
I was going to get a Scarred Lands book, but again the FLGS didn't have the one or two I wanted.
I was going to get some pre-painted minis, but I didn't know the D&D minis were pretty much all monsters. Does anyone sell generic pre-painted heroes by the way?

Everything else I wanted was d20 fantasy and as I said I wanted to expand a bit. So I got Paranoia XP. The book had me on the page where they give an example of play from another game because you aren't cleared to read an example of play from Paranoia.
