Things other than rulebooks

:: chuckle :: They did those. Back in 1st Edition, the Monster Cards came in 4 sets. Some new monsters were added that later appeared in the MMII (1st Ed.), like the Zorbo (Koala-like creature).

Yes, I remember them. Now how about some for 3e? Can't very well use 1e cards for 3e.

That's awesome. Anyone have a good printer recommendation? I would need these on laminated card stock.

I've been using them for a couple years now. Print them on cardstock, they last longer. It is a lot of work to print and cut them all. I printed up spells by level as my players (and villains) progressed, so that I only printed the levels I needed at the time. Laminating sounds good, but would be prohibitively expensive. Also, you would have to laminate each card individually, as cutting a laminated sheet of them would destroy the benefits of laminating.

My policy when using the rules from the Artificer's Handbook has been to always rely on the bonus item rules where they could be used. It has solved all manners of problems in this reguard.

Good call.

What I meant is that you could get them professionally printed on special card stock that for durability. I suppose I could just print them myself on regular card stock and then put them in card sleeves. Will these fit in a standard card sleeve?

If you mean by "standard card sleeve" something that will hold cards like "Magic: The Gathering" cards? (I don't play CCGs, but I have a free pack here that I got at Origins). The cards from ToGC are slightly smaller than the magic cards (about 1/8 inch smaller all around the card). So they should fit. I use Rubbermaid plastic index card boxes that work well (I have five just for spell cards; I'm not gonna talk about the space needed for monster cards!) :heh:

SWEET! and thanks to Thunderfoot for the e-mail with the same recommendation. :)

What you are describing is a database application. :) Just like the one I use.

Except that I am in the process of implementing the new DMG II stat blocks in it. Those are unlikely to fit on an index card. And therein lies the rub, another part of the reason why good electronic tools are so hard to come by: you want something that fits on an index card, other people want them to take as much space as they need to provide all the information, and still others would like it to print NPC character sheets.

I use Filemaker Pro with all the monsters from the SRD imported. I use 4x6 index cards, front and back, and have a layout for the new DMGII stat block, no problem. WOrks great.

Might start getting problematic above 10th level, but it's still better than the alternative.

Yet the key phrase is (emphasis mine): "I use Filemaker Pro...".

That each of us has built a custom tool the provides exactly what we want/need tends to support my point.

Well, I use Etools. They have the new statblock format; I just print preview it, copy it to a Word template, and print my own cards. :D

EDIT: they also have a template to print initiative cards on 3x5, but I like my formatting better.
