Things that stop invisibility..yes or no?

Hello all,

I realize this is old hat but I wanted to double check these actions.

A spellcaster who has invisibility active performs the following actions...which one cause him to become visible?

1. Cast Bless, true strike, protection from evil?
2. Cast summon natures ally, monster, or animate dead and direct them?
3. Cast flaming sphere and direct it?
4. Cast spiritial weapon and direct it?
5. Cast spectral hand and deliver touch spells with it?
6. Cast stone to mud on the ground?
7. Cast wall of fire between you and foes?
8. Cast a fireball?

I am sure of 1 and 8 but not 2 though 7.

Thanks,
Forsythe

From PHB P.218

For purpose of this spell, an "attack" includes any spell targeting a fore or whose area or effect includes a foe.

So,

1. Cast Bless, true strike, protection from evil?
2. Cast summon natures ally, monster, or animate dead and direct them?
3. Cast flaming sphere and direct it?
4. Cast spiritual weapon and direct it?
6. Cast stone to mud on the ground?
7. Cast wall of fire between you and foes?

These acts will not let you visible.

5. Cast spectral hand and deliver touch spells with it?

Casting Spectral Hand should be OK. But casting a touch spell will break your invisibility as long as a target of the touch spell is still your foe.

8. Cast a fireball?

This will break your enchantment if at least one foe is within the area.

Trying to understand the difference between spectral hand and summon monster....in both cases you summon something with hitpoints, its own AC, and attack bonus.

Another similar issue would be having a famliar deliver touch attack for its invisible master?

Btw, thanks for answering...I was surprised how many people looked at the post and just did not respond.

Ok...most interesting, I disagree with most of these, but it is why I asked.

1,2 - I agree do not cause visibility.
3 - I agree causes visibility
4 - Ok...this one is confusing...if visible then cast...I agree...you become visibile...but...if cast and directed first and it continues attacking....then you stay invisible.
5 - Spectral hand is a hard one...the hand is a summoned object with hitpoints, AC, etc...it delivers touch attack spells you cast...just like a familiar does..(and both can be killed just like any summoned creature)..so I think the caster stays invisible.
6 - I disagree, even if the enemy is in the area I think the caster stays invisible.
7 - Not an attack unless you attempt to hit the foe with the wall....caster stays invisible.
8 - Agree...becomes visible if aimed at foe

Comments anyone?

1. Cast Bless, true strike, protection from evil?
- Remain Invisible.

2. Cast summon natures ally, monster, or animate dead and direct them?
- Remain Invisible.

3. Cast flaming sphere and direct it?
- Remain Invisible when casting Flaming Sphere, become visible when you direct it against an opponent.

4. Cast spiritial weapon and direct it?
- Remain Invisible when casting Spiritual Weapon, become visible when you direct it against an opponent.

5. Cast spectral hand and deliver touch spells with it?
- Remain Invisible when casting Spectral Hand, become visible when you direct it against an opponent.

6. Cast stone to mud on the ground?
- Remain Invisible.

7. Cast wall of fire between you and foes?
- Remain Invisible.

8. Cast a fireball?
- Remain invisible if directed against unattended objects, empty space, etc. Become visible if area of effect includes enemies.

If it requires you to make an attack roll to resolve a hostile action, or you yourself direct it to manifest damaging effects against a creature, the invisibility would end. If you cause the attack indirectly, either by other creatures acting as proxy (summoned creatures, undead, dominated creatures) or by manifesting a damaging effect in an otherwise unoccupied space and it is then intersected by creatures by virtue of their own folly (wall of fire in an unoccupied space, cloudkill in an unoccupied space, etc) then you would remain invisible.

5. Cast spectral hand and deliver touch spells with it?
Note that you can use spectral hand to make touches for things like healing, destroying objects, making others invisible et cetera. But if you use it for a direct attack invisibility ends.

I disagree that controlling a flaming sphere or spiritual weapon makes you visible. It is no different than you controlling the knife that cuts the rope bridge that makes your enemies plunge to their deaths.

I also say that flaming sphere and spiritual weapon don't break invisibility. They are not targeted spells, and they don't have an area of effect to include enemies in.

I could go either way with Spectral Hand. Touch spells don't target anything, but they are still "targeting" something. I lean towards letting the caster stay invisible.

Stone to Mud will break an invisibility if there are any enemies in the area affected (i.e. standing on the affected stone).

I think that both flaming sphere and spiritual weapon would cause the loss of invisibility as per what Sejs posted. There is a big difference between cutting a rope (attacking it) and directing a flaming sphere or spiritual weapon slam into someone.
