D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: The Far Realm

The Far Realm was a cool idea back when I first encountered it in the 3rd Edition Manual of the Planes. But it seems that since then, it pretty much has become the new Astral Plane, since the Astral Plane is kind of boring with absolutely nothing there except for a few Githyanki strongholds.

The current Far Realm seems like a really good innovation of the Astral Plane, but it lost most of the identity it had 10 years ago. Just like Eldarin are interesting, but don't have anything to do with the Eladrin from 10 years back.

IMO, with the Far Realm, less is more. However, as a setting detail, it's waaaay down my list of concerns for 5e. They can drop it entirely, keep it as-is, massively redefine it, or even set the entire game there, for all I care. As long as the rules are strong, and support my creating my own settings (and/or using Eberron and Golarion), then I'll be happy.

After further review, they only stole my core idea about stars and the far realm...:)

The alien/MIB bit is all theirs....hehe.

I've never been a fan of the Far Realm. I don't much care for most aberrations, either. I have no problem with them being in the books. I just don't like that it's pretty much become written into the assumed setting.

i don't want them to go into depth on the realm itself, i just want more info on monsters, and the powers and how it affects the world. Like my friend put it, "they should tease us more"

See...this is what I mean....I'm pissed. ;)

Now all that revising I did to my planes and such to be unique but compatible will look like copycatting...AGAIN!

I swear they are tapped into my computer.....

oh well, c'est la vie....it just confirms I am a genius and they copy my greatness*

:p

*tongue in cheek of course

/grumble mutter rant
I don't know, the Far Realms as "space" made sense the moment they added Star Pact Warlocks and associated them strongly with aberrerant stuff, Far Realm and Stars.

I think the other alternate idea for Far Realms I like is the idea t hat the Far Realms are the "Dreamscape". The Far Realms exist in our heads, and we may even go there in our dreams. And abberations don't just look like they fled our worst nightmares - they have fled our worst nightmares!

Cheer up, the campaign setting I wrote up in around 1978 is so close to 4e's cosmology and basic concepts that you would have to assume I had a time machine. It just happens.
