So, it's the SCA, but without any of that 'historical research' or 'authenticity' to get in the way of whacking people with sticks?

You say that like it's a bad thing. :)

In my small experience with the SCA, I've found it to be less about "Historical Research" and "Authenticity" and more about "Geeks Trying to Get Laid".

This looks at least as interesting as the SCA.

The SCA doesn't like us very much, as far as I understand. It's kind of like, "You fight with foam weapons? How... quaint."

"Geeks trying to get laid?" If they're in SCA, they aren't trying very hard!

(on the other hand, going to Pennsic is very, very cool)

Which is why I tell all my girlfriendless friends to join the SCA. :) Hey, it worked for me!

"If you can't get laid in the SCA, you'll never get laid at all."

But this looks like the M/F ratio would be really bad for that; the few women who do show up will most likely be mobbed.

But, by the same token, the SCA also got me interested in studying heraldry and reading Kipling, not to mention making my D&D games just a tad more internally consistent.
